قَالَ لَنۡ اُرۡسِلَہٗ مَعَکُمۡ حَتّٰی تُؤۡتُوۡنِ مَوۡثِقًا مِّنَ اللّٰہِ لَتَاۡتُنَّنِیۡ بِہٖۤ اِلَّاۤ اَنۡ یُّحَاطَ بِکُمۡ ۖ فَلَمَّاۤ اٰتَوۡہُ مَوۡثِقَہُمۡ قَالَ اللّٰہُ عَلٰی مَا نَقُوۡلُ وَکِیۡلٌ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

He said, ‘I will not send him with you until you give me a solemn promise in the name of Allah that you will surely bring him to me, unless you are encompassed.’ And when they gave him their solemn promise, he said, ‘Allah watches over what we say.’

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اس نے کہا میں ہرگز اسے تمہارے ساتھ نہیں بھیجوں گا یہاں تک کہ تم اللہ کے حوالہ سے مجھے پختہ عہد دو کہ تم ضرور اسے میرے پاس (واپس) لے آؤ گے سوائے اس کے کہ تمہیں گھیر لیا جائے۔ پس جب انہوں نے اسے اپنا پختہ عہد دے دیا تو اس نے کہا اللہ اُس پر جو ہم کہہ رہے ہیں نگران ہے۔

French

Il dit : « Je ne l’enverrai pas avec vous avant que vous ne m’ayez fait au nom d’Allāh la promesse solennelle que vous le ramènerez assurément auprès de moi, à moins que vous ne soyez privés de vos moyens. » Et lorsqu’ils lui eurent fait leur promesse solennelle, il dit : « Allāh surveille ce que nous disons. »

German

Er sprach: "Ich werde ihn nicht mit euch senden, ehe ihr mir nicht ein feierliches Versprechen im Namen Allahs gebt, dass ihr ihn mir sicher wiederbringt, es sei denn, ihr werdet alle umringt." Als sie ihm ihr feierliches Versprechen gegeben hatten, sprach er: "Allah wacht über das, was wir sprechen."

他说: “我决不派他与你们同去, 直到你们奉安拉之名许我郑重的诺言: 除非你们自己遭遇 (某种困难), 你们一定要把他给我带回。” 当他们给了他郑重的诺言, 他说: “安拉监察我们现在所说的。”

Egli disse: «Non lo manderò con voi finché non mi promettiate solennemente nel nome di Allah di riportarmelo sano e salvo, a meno che non siate circondati.» E quando gli ebbero fatto promessa solenne, egli disse: «Allah sorveglia su quel che diciamo.»

Respondió: “No lo enviaré con vosotros, a menos que reciba de vosotros la promesa solemne, en el nombre de Al-lah, de devolvérmelo con seguridad, salvo que os veáis impedidos”. Y cuando le hicieron su promesa solemne, él dijo: “Al-lah vigila lo que decimos”.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اس نے کہا‘ میں اسے تمہارے ساتھ کبھی نہیں بھیجوں گا جب تک تم مجھ سے اللہ کی طرف سے مقرر شدہ (یعنی اس قسم سے موکد) یہ عہد نہ کرو کہ تم اسے ضرور میرے پاس (واپس) لاؤ گے۔ سوائے اس (صورت) کے کہ تم (خود کسی مصیبت میں) گھر جاؤ۔ پھر جب انہوں نے اسے اپنا پختہ قول دے دیا تو اس نے کہا جو (کچھ) ہم (اس وقت) کہہ رہے ہیں اللہ اس کا نگران ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

He said, ‘I will not send him with you until you give me a solemn promise in the name of Allah that you will surely bring him to me, unless it be that you are encompassed.’ And when they had given him their solemn promise, he said, ‘Allah watches over what we say.’

English - Five Volume Translation

He said, ‘I will not send him with you until you give me a solemn promise in the name of Allah that you will surely bring him to me, unless you are encompassed.’ And when they had given him their solemn promise, he said, ‘Allah watches over what we say.’[1568]

Important Words:

موثقا (a solemn promise) is derived from وثق for which see 2:28,64. It is synonymous with میثاق meaning a solemn promise, a covenant, etc. (Lane).

Commentary:

This verse points to a resemblance which the Holy Prophet possessed with Benjamin, the brother of Joseph from his own mother. Just as Jacob, before sending Benjamin to Egypt, took from his other sons a solemn pledge to protect him, similarly, before the Holy Prophetconsented to migrate to Medina, ‘Abbas, his uncle, took from the representatives of the Medinites, later known as Ansar, a solemn undertaking that they would protect him by all means in their power (Hisham & Tabari).

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

ان کے باپ نے کہا "میں اس کو ہرگز تمہارے ساتھ نہ بھیجوں گا جب تک کہ تم اللہ کے نام سے مجھ کو پیمان نہ دے دو کہ اِسے میرے پا س ضرور واپس لے کر آؤ گے الا یہ کہ کہیں تم گھیر ہی لیے جاؤ" جب انہوں نے اس کو اپنے اپنے پیمان دے دیے تو اس نے کہا "دیکھو، ہمارے اس قول پر اللہ نگہبان ہے"

English - Sahih

[Jacob] said, "Never will I send him with you until you give me a promise by Allah that you will bring him [back] to me, unless you should be surrounded by enemies." And when they had given their promise, he said, "Allah, over what we say, is Witness."

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

کہا اسے ہرگز تمہارے ساتھ نہیں بھیجوں گا یہاں تک کہ مجھے الله کا عہد دو کہ البتہ اسے میرے ہاں ضرور پہنچا دویں گے مگر یہ کہ تم سب گھر جاؤ پھر جب سب نے اسے عہد دیا کہا ہماری باتوں کا الله شاہد ہے

He said, "Never will I send him with you until you give to me a promise by Allah that surely you will bring him to me unless that you are surrounded." And when they had given him their promise, he said, "Allah over what we say (is) a Guardian."

Their father said: "I shall never send him with you until you give me a solemn promise in the name of Allah that you will bring him back to me, unless you yourselves are surrounded." Then after they had given him their solemn promise, he said. "Allah watches over what we have said."

He said: "I will never send him with you until you swear by God that you will bring him back to me, unless all of you are overtaken (by misfortune)." When they had given their promise, he said: "God is witness to our conversation."
