لَا تَحْسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَفْرَحُونَ بِمَآ أَتَوا۟ وَّيُحِبُّونَ أَن يُحْمَدُوا۟ بِمَا لَمْ يَفْعَلُوا۟ فَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّهُم بِمَفَازَةٍ مِّنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Think not that those who exult in what they have done, and love to be praised for what they have not done — think not that they are secure from punishment. They shall suffer a grievous chastisement.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

تُو اُن لوگوں کے متعلق جو اپنی کارستانیوں پر خوش ہو رہے ہیں اور پسند کرتے ہیں کہ اُن کی اُن کاموں میں بھی تعریف کی جائے جو انہوں نے نہیں کئے۔ (ہاں) ہرگز اُن کے متعلق گمان نہ کر کہ وہ عذاب سے بچ سکیں گے جبکہ اُن کے لئے دردناک عذاب (مقدر) ہے۔

Ne pense pas que ceux qui exultent à propos de ce qu’ils ont fait – et qui aiment être loués pour ce qu’ils n’ont pas fait ― ne pense donc pas que ceux-là sont à l’abri de tout châtiment. Pour eux, il y a un châtiment douloureux.

No creas que los que se alegran por lo que han hecho y desean ser alabados por lo que no han hecho: no creas que están a salvo del castigo. Sufrirán un castigo humillante.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

تو ان لوگوں کو جو اپنے کیے پر اتراتے ہیں اور جو (کام) انہوں نے نہیں کیا اس کی بابت (بھی) چاہتے ہیں کہ ان کی تعریف کی جائے بالکل[2] نہ سمجھ کہ وہ عذاب سے محفوظ ہیں (وہ پکڑے جائیں گے) اور ان کے لئے دردناک عذاب (مقدر) ہے۔

قرآن مجید کی آیت میں لَا تَحْسَبَنَّ یعنی بالکل نہ سمجھ‘ کے الفاظ دو دفعہ آئے ہیں جس کے معنے تاکید کے ہیں اسی لئے ہم نے بالکل کے لفظ سے تاکید کے معنے ادا کر دئے ہیں۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

Think not that those [a]who exult in what they have done, and love to be praised for what they have not done—think not that they are secure[545] from punishment. They shall suffer a grievous chastisement.

61:3-4.

Important Words:

مفازة (secure) is derived from فاز which means, he was successful and gained what he desired. فازمنه means, he escaped it (danger, etc.), or he became secure from it. So مفازة means, a place or state of security or escape; a means of success and prosperity (Aqrab).

Commentary:

The expression "think not" mentioned twice in the verse not only makes the sentence more clear, but also adds to it beauty and force. Such people as exult in evil deeds and have no anxiety and no desire for their spiritual welfare, being satisfied with false praise only, must not consider themselves secure from Divine punishment.

تم اُن لوگوں کو عذاب سے محفوظ نہ سمجھو جو اپنے کرتوتوں پر خوش ہیں اور چاہتے ہیں کہ ایسے کاموں کی تعریف اُنہیں حاصل ہو جو فی الواقع انہوں نے نہیں کیے ہیں حقیقت میں ان کے لیے درد ناک سزا تیار ہے

And never think that those who rejoice in what they have perpetrated and like to be praised for what they did not do - never think them [to be] in safety from the punishment, and for them is a painful punishment.

مت گمان کر ان لوگوں کو جو خوش ہوتے ہیں جو کرتے ہیں اور چاہتے ہیں کہ اس چیز کے ساتھ تعریف کیے جائیں جو انہوں نے کی پس ہر گز تو انہیں عذاب سے خلاصی پانے والا خیال نہ کر اور ان کے لیے دردناک عذاب ہے
