اے میرے قید خانہ کے ساتھیو! کیا (ایک دوسرے سے) اختلاف رکھنے والے خدا بہتر ہیں یا اللہ جو یکتا (اور) کامل غلبہ رکھنے والا ہے؟

Commentary:
The verse means to say that whereas in this world of matter numerical strength counts for much, it is not so with God. Though He is One and Alone, He overpowers all and dominates over all.

اے زنداں کے ساتھیو، تم خود ہی سوچو کہ بہت سے متفرق رب بہتر ہیں یا وہ ایک اللہ جو سب غالب ہے؟

اے قید خانہ کے دونوں ساتھیو! جہاں تک تم دونوں میں سے ایک کا تعلّق ہے تو وہ اپنے آقا کو شراب پلائے گا اور جہاں تک دوسرے کا تعلق ہے تو وہ سُولی پر چڑھایا جائے گا پس پرندے اس کے سر میں سے کچھ (نوچ نوچ کر) کھائیں گے۔ اُس بات کا فیصلہ سنا دیا گیا ہے جس کے بارہ میں تم دونوں استفسار کر رہے تھے۔

Ô mes deux compagnons de prison, quant à l’un d’entre vous, il versera du vin à boire pour son seigneur, et quant à l’autre, il sera crucifié, de sorte que les oiseaux mangeront de sa tête. L’affaire sur laquelle vous vous êtes enquis a été décrétée. »

اے میرے قید خانہ کے دونوں ساتھیو! (اب اپنی اپنی خواب کی تعبیر سنو) تم میں سے ایک تو اپنے آقا کو شراب پلایا کرے گا اور دوسرے کو سولی دے کر مارا جائے گا۔ پھر پرندے اس کے سر پر سے (گوشت وغیرہ) کھائیں گے‘ (لو) جس امر کے متعلق تم پوچھ رہے ہو اس کا فیصلہ کر دیا گیا ہے۔

Commentary:
It may be asked why did Joseph, of whom the interpretation of the dreams was sought, say to the two prisoners that the affair about which they had inquired had already been decreed or settled. This was because the interpretation of dreams has much to do with their fulfilment. So long as a dream is not told to others, it may remain in abeyance. But when it is announced and communicated to others and its interpretation is sought, it is very generally fulfilled. This is why the Holy Prophet is reported to have said that an evil dream should not be communicated to others (Bukhari, ch. on Ar-Ru’ya min Allah).

اے زنداں کے ساتھیو، تمہارے خواب کی تعبیر یہ ہے کہ تم میں سے ایک تو اپنے رب (شاہ مصر) کو شراب پلائے گا، رہا دوسرا تو اسے سولی پر چڑھایا جائے گا اور پرندے اس کا سر نوچ نوچ کر کھائیں گے فیصلہ ہو گیا اُس بات کا جو تم پوچھ رہے تھے"

Commentary:
It may be asked why did Joseph, of whom the interpretation of the dreams was sought, say to the two prisoners that the affair about which they had inquired had already been decreed or settled. This was because the interpretation of dreams has much to do with their fulfilment. So long as a dream is not told to others, it may remain in abeyance. But when it is announced and communicated to others and its interpretation is sought, it is very generally fulfilled.
