قَالَ یَبۡنَؤُمَّ لَا تَاۡخُذۡ بِلِحۡیَتِیۡ وَلَا بِرَاۡسِیۡۤ ۖ اِنِّیۡ خَشِیۡتُ اَنۡ تَقُوۡلَ فَرَّقۡتَ بَیۡنَ بَنِیۡۤ اِسۡرٰٓءِیۡلَ وَلَمۡ تَرۡقُبۡ قَوۡلِیۡ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

He answered, “O son of my mother seize me not by my beard, nor by the hair of my head. I feared lest thou shouldst say, ‘Thou hast caused a division among the children of Israel, and didst not wait for my word.’”

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اس نے کہا اے میری ماں کے بیٹے! تُو میری داڑھی اور میرا سر نہ پکڑ۔ میں تو اس بات سے ڈر گیا کہ کہیں تُو یہ نہ کہے کہ تُو نے بنی اسرائیل کے درمیان تفرقہ ڈال دیا اور میرے فیصلے کا انتظار نہ کیا۔

Il répondit : « Ô fils de ma mère, ne me saisis pas par la barbe, ni par les cheveux de la tête. Je craignais que tu ne dises : « Tu as occasionné une division parmi les Enfants d’lsraël, et tu n’as pas pris en considération ma parole. »

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

(ہارون نے) کہا‘ اے میری ماں کے بیٹے! نہ میری داڑھی (کے بال) پکڑ اور نہ میرے سر کے بال (پکڑ) میں تو اس بات سے ڈر گیا تھا کہ تو یہ نہ کہے کہ تو نے بنی اسرائیل میں تفرقہ پیدا کر دیا ہے اور میری بات کا خیال نہیں رکھا (کہ قوم کی تنظیم قائم رہے)

English - Short Commentary Translation

Aaron answered, [a]‘Son of my mother, seize me not by my beard, nor by the hair of my head. I feared lest thou shouldst say: ‘Thou hast caused a division among the Children of Israel, and didst not wait for my word.’

He answered, [a]“O son of my mother, seize me not by my beard, nor by the hair of my head. I feared lest thou shouldst say, ‘Thou hast caused a division among the Children of Israel, and didst not wait for my word.’”[2307]

Important Words:

لم ترقب (didst not wait for) is formed from رقب. رقبه means, (a) he looked, watched or waited for him or it; (b) he guarded, kept, preserved or took care of it; (c) he was mindful or regardful of it; (d) he feared him (Lane & Aqrab).

Commentary:

Taking the word رقب in its different senses the expression لم ترقب قولی would mean, thou didst not wait for my word; thou didst not preserve and guard my word (the instructions which I left for your guidance); thou wast not regardful of my word i.e. thou didst not pay any regard to my directions which I left for your guidance.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

ہارونؑ نے جواب دیا "اے میری ماں کے بیٹے، میری داڑھی نہ پکڑ، نہ میرے سر کے بال کھینچ، مجھے اِس بات کا ڈر تھا کہ تو آ کر کہے گا تم نے بنی اسرائیل میں پھوٹ ڈال دی اور میری بات کا پاس نہ کیا"

English - Sahih

[Aaron] said, "O son of my mother, do not seize [me] by my beard or by my head. Indeed, I feared that you would say, 'You caused division among the Children of Israel, and you did not observe [or await] my word.' "

کہا اے میری ماں کے بیٹے میری داڑھی اور اور سر نہ پکڑ بیشک میں ڈرا اس سے کہ تو کہے گا تو نے بنی اسرائیل میں پھوٹ ڈال دی اور میرے فیصلہ کا انتظار نہ کیا

English - Talal Itani

He said, "O son of my mother! (Do) not seize (me) by my beard and not by my head. Indeed, I [I] feared that you would say, "You caused division between (the) Children of Israel and not you respect my word."

'Son of my mother,' Aaron said, 'take me not by the beard, or the head! I was fearful that thou wouldst say, "Thou hast divided the Children of Israel, and thou hast not observed my word."

Aaron answered: "Son of my mother! Do not seize me with my beard, nor by (the hair of) my head. I feared that on returning you might say: 'You sowed discord among the Children of Israel, and did not pay heed to my words.'"
