English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
And they say, ‘Such and such cattle and crops are forbidden. None shall eat thereof save whom we please’ — so they allege — and there are cattle whose backs are forbidden, and there are cattle over which they pronounce not the name of Allah, forging a lie against Him. Soon will He requite them for that which they have fabricated.

اور وہ اپنے زُعم کے مطابق کہتے ہیں یہ مویشی اور کھیتیاں ممنوع ہیں (یعنی) اُنہیں کوئی نہ کھائے مگر وہی جس کے متعلق ہم چاہیں، اور اسی طرح ایسے چوپائے ہیں جن کی پیٹھیں (سواری کے لئے) حرام کردی گئیں اور ایسے مویشی بھی جن پر وہ اللہ کا نام نہیں پڑھتے اُس پر افترا کرتے ہوئے۔ وہ انہیں ضرور سزا دے گا اس کی جو وہ افترا کرتے ہیں۔
French
Et ils disent : « Tels ou tels bestiaux ou telle ou telle récolte sont interdits ; personne n’a le droit d’en manger, sauf ceux que nous voudrons » – voilà ce qu’ils affirment. Il y a aussi des bestiaux dont le dos est interdit, et il y a des bestiaux sur lesquels ils ne prononcent pas le nom d’Allāh, inventant un mensonge contre Lui ; Il ne tardera pas à les rétribuer pour ce qu’ils ont inventé.

Sie sagen: "Dieses Vieh und diese Feldfrüchte sind verboten; niemand soll davon essen außer wem wir es erlauben" – so behaupten sie –, und es gibt Tiere, deren Rücken (zum Reiten) verboten ist, und Tiere, über die sie nicht den Namen Allahs aussprechen, Lüge wider Ihn erfindend. Bald wird Er ihnen vergelten, was sie erdichteten.

Ed essi dicono: «Questo e quest'altro bestiame e questo e quest'altro raccolto sono proibiti; nessuno ne mangerà, salvo chi ci piace» - così asseriscono - e c'è del bestiame che è proibito montare; e c'è del bestiame sul quale essi non pronunciano il nome di Allah, inventando così una menzogna contro di Lui. Ben presto Egli li ricompenserà per quanto hanno inventato.

Mas dicen: “Estos y aquellos ganados y cultivos están prohibidos. Nadie los comerá salvo quien queramos” – así alegan– y hay ganado cuyos lomos están prohibidos y ganado sobre el que no invocan el nombre de Al-lah urdiendo una mentira contra Él. Pronto les dará su merecido por lo que han tramado.
اردو تفسیرِ صغیر
اور وہ اپنے گمان کی بنا پر کہتے ہیں کہ فلاں فلاں جانور اور کھیتی (ایسے ہیں کہ ان کا کھانا) ممنوع ہے۔ انہیں صرف وہی کھا سکتا ہے جس کے متعلق ہم کہیں (کہ وہ کھائے) اور (کہتے ہیں کہ) کچھ جانور ایسے ہیں کہ ان کی پیٹھیں (سواری کے لئے) حرام کر دی گئی ہیں اور کچھ جانور ایسے ہیں کہ وہ ان پر اللہ کا نام نہیں لیتے (یہ ان کا قول و فعل) اس (اللہ) پر افتراء کے طور پر (ہوتا) ہے‘ وہ انہیں اس جھوٹ کے سبب سے جو وہ بناتے ہیں ضرور سزا دے گا۔
English - Short Commentary Translation
And they say, ‘such and such cattle and crops are forbidden.[917] None shall eat thereof save whom we please—so they assert—and there are cattle whose backs are forbidden,[918] and there are cattle over which they pronounce not the name of Allah,[919] forging a lie against Him. Soon will He requite them for that which they have fabricated.
By "forbidden crops" are meant such cultivated fields as were dedicated to the idols. These could be used only by the priests that attended upon them.
The cattle mentioned in 5:104. They were not used for riding or as beasts of burden.
Cattle dedicated to the associate-gods of Meccan idolaters. There is no reference here to the mentioning of God’s name at the time of slaughtering.

Important Words:
حجر (forbidden). حجرہ (hajara-hu) means, he prevented or prohibited or forbade or interdicted him; or tie deprived him. حجر (hijr) means, forbidden or prohibited or unlawful; the faculty of reason or understanding because it prevents one from doing improper acts. The word also means custody or guardianship (Aqrab).
Commentary:
This verse gives another instance of the absurdity of man-made laws.
By "forbidden crops" are meant such cultivated fields as were dedicated to idols. These could be used only by the priests that attended upon the idols. The cattle might eat of all crops except those that were dedicated to idols.
The cattle whose backs were forbidden are those mentioned in 5:104. Nobody was allowed to ride them or use them as beasts of burden.
The cattle over which they pronounce not the name of Allah are the cattle which they dedicated to their associate-gods. There is no reference here to the mentioning of God’s name at the time of slaughtering.

کہتے ہیں یہ جانور اور یہ کھیت محفوظ ہیں، ا نہیں صرف وہی لوگ کھا سکتے ہیں جنہیں ہم کھلانا چاہیں، حالانکہ یہ پابندی ان کی خود ساختہ ہے پھر کچھ جانور ہیں جن پر سواری اور بار برداری حرام کر دی گئی ہے اور کچھ جانور ہیں جن پر اللہ کا نام نہیں لیتے، اور یہ سب کچھ انہوں نے اللہ پر افترا کیا ہے، عنقریب اللہ انہیں ان افترا پرداز یوں کا بدلہ دے گا

And they say, "These animals and crops are forbidden; no one may eat from them except whom we will," by their claim. And there are those [camels] whose backs are forbidden [by them] and those upon which the name of Allah is not mentioned - [all of this] an invention of untruth about Him. He will punish them for what they were inventing.

They say, 'These are cattle and tillage sacrosanct; none shall eat them, but whom we will'-- so they assert -- 'and cattle whose backs have been forbidden, and cattle over which they mention not the Name of God.' All that they say, forging against God; He will assuredly recompense them for what they were forging.

They say: 'These animals and these crops are sacrosanct: none may eat of them save those whom we will' - imposing interdictions of their own contriving. And they declare that it is forbidden to burden the backs of certain cattle, and these are the cattle over which they do not pronounce the name of Allah. All these are false fabrications against Allah, and He will soon requite them for all that they fabricate.

Commentary:
The verse refers to another absurd custom of the Arabs. The Divine attributes "Wise" and "All-Knowing" have been mentioned here to point out that the people got entangled in these foolish beliefs and practices because they turned away from the Wise and Knowing God and followed false deities and their foolish devotees.

یٰۤاَیُّہَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوۡا رَبَّکُمۡ وَاخۡشَوۡا یَوۡمًا لَّا یَجۡزِیۡ وَالِدٌ عَنۡ وَّلَدِہٖ وَلَا مَوۡلُوۡدٌ ہُوَ جَازٍ عَنۡ وَّالِدِہٖ شَیۡـًٔا ۚ اِنَّ وَعۡدَ اللّٰہِ حَقٌّ ۖ فَلَا تَغُرَّنَّکُمُ الۡحَیٰوۃُ الدُّنۡیَا وَلَا یَغُرَّنَّکُمۡ بِاللّٰہِ الۡغَرُوۡرُ

اے انسانو! اپنے ربّ کا تقویٰ اختیار کرو اور اس دن سے ڈرو جس دن نہ باپ اپنے بیٹے کے کام آئے گا، نہ بیٹا اپنے باپ کے کچھ کام آئے گا۔ یقیناً اللہ کا وعدہ سچا ہے۔ پس تمہیں دنیا کی زندگی ہرگز دھوکہ میں نہ ڈالے اور تمہیں اللہ کے بارہ میں دھوکہ باز (شیطان) ہرگز دھوکہ نہ دے سکے۔

Ô hommes, cherchez protection auprès de votre Seigneur, et craignez le jour où le père ne sera d’aucun secours à son fils, ni le fils d’aucun secours à son père. La promesse d’Allāh est assurément vraie. Aussi, ne laissez pas la vie de ce monde vous séduire, et ne laissez pas non plus le Trompeur vous tromper concernant Allāh.

O ihr Menschen, fürchtet euren Herrn und fürchtet den Tag, da der Vater nicht Buße leisten wird für seinen Sohn, noch wird der Sohn im geringsten Buße leisten können für seinen Vater. O mankind, fear your Lord and fear a Day when no father will avail his son, nor will a son avail his father at all. Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth, so let not the worldly life delude you and be not deceived about Allah by the Deceiver.

اے لوگو اپنے رب سے ڈرو اور اس دن سے ڈرو جس میں نہ باپ اپنے بیٹے کے کام آئے گا اور نہ بیٹا اپنے باپ کے کچھ کام آئے گا الله کا وعدہ سچا ہے پھر دنیا کی زندگی تمہیں دھوکا میں نہ ڈال دے اور نہ دغا باز تمہیں الله سے دھوکہ میں رکھیں

O mankind! Fear your Lord and fear a Day not can avail a father [for] his son and not a son, he (can) avail [for] his father anything. Indeed, (the) Promise (of) Allah (is) True, so let not deceive you the life (of) the world and let not deceive you about Allah the deceiver.

English - Arberry
O men, fear your Lord, and dread a day when no father shall give satisfaction for his child, and no child shall give satisfaction for his father whatever. Surely God's promise is true; so let not the present life delude you, and let not the Deluder delude you concerning God.
English - Maududi
O people, fear (the wrath) of your Lord, and dread the Day when no father will stand for his child, nor any child stand for his father. Surely Allah's promise is true. So let the life of this world not beguile you, nor let the Deluder delude you about Allah.

O mankind! Keep your duty to your Lord and fear a Day when the parent will not be able to avail the child in aught, nor the child to avail the parent. Lo! Allah's promise is the very truth. Let not the life of the world beguile you, nor let the deceiver beguile you, in regard to Allah.
