وَلَوۡ تَرٰۤی اِذۡ وُقِفُوۡا عَلَی النَّارِ فَقَالُوۡا یٰلَیۡتَنَا نُرَدُّ وَلَا نُکَذِّبَ بِاٰیٰتِ رَبِّنَا وَنَکُوۡنَ مِنَ الۡمُؤۡمِنِیۡنَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And if thou couldst only see when they are made to stand before the Fire! They will say, ‘Oh, would that we might be sent back! And then we would not treat the Signs of our Lord as lies, and we would be of the believers.’

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور کاش تو دیکھ سکتا کہ جب وہ آگ کے پاس (ذرا) ٹھہرائے جائیں گے تو کہیں گے اے کاش! ایسا ہوتا کہ ہم واپس لَوٹادیئے جاتے، پھر ہم اپنے ربّ کی آیات کی تکذیب نہ کرتے اور ہم مومنین میں سے ہو جاتے۔

French

Et si tu pouvais les voir quand ils seront contraints de s’arrêter devant le Feu ! Ils diront : « Si seulement nous pouvions être renvoyés ! Et alors nous ne traiterions pas de mensonges les Signes de notre Seigneur, et nous serions au nombre des croyants. »

German

Und könntest du nur sehen, wie sie vor das Feuer gestellt werden! Dann werden sie sprechen: "Ach, dass wir doch zurückgebracht würden! Wir würden dann nicht die Zeichen unseres Herrn als Lüge behandeln, und wir würden zu den Gläubigen zählen."

E se tu li potessi vedere quando saranno costretti a stare di fronte al fuoco! Essi diranno: «Oh, potessimo essere rimandati indietro! Ed allora non considereremmo i segni del nostro Signore come menzogne, e saremmo tra i credenti.»

¡Si al menos pudieras ver cuando sean colocados ante el Fuego! Dirán: “¡Oh, ojalá pudiéramos regresar! Entonces no trataríamos de mentiras los Signos de Nuestro Señor y nos contaríamos entre los creyentes”.

اور اگر تو انہیں (اس وقت) دیکھے جب انہیں دوزخ کے سامنے کھڑا کیا جائے گا جب (وہ) کہیں گے (کہ) اے کاش ہمیں’’ ایمان کی حالت میں ‘‘ واپس لوٹا دیا جائے اور ہم آئندہ کبھی اپنے رب کے نشانوں کو نہیں جھٹلائیں گے (تو تجھے ان کی تکذیب کی حقیقت معلوم ہو جائے۔)

Important Words:

وقفوا (made to stand) is derived from وقف which is both transitive and intransitive, meaning, he or it paused or stood still or became stationary; or he made him or it pause or stand still or become stationary. وقف علیه means, he comprehended or understood it. وقفته علی ذنبه means, I made him know or made him acquainted with his offence or sin. وقف الدار means, he dedicated the house in the cause of Allah; or he set it apart inalienably for a definite purpose. وقف علیه (in the passive voice) means, he was made to pause or stand at or before it; he was introduced into it and knew what was in it; he was made to know it surely and definitely (Taj).

Commentary:

The words, إذ وقفوا علی النار when they are made to stand before the Fire, may also mean, "when they will be made to enter the Fire to abide therein for long,” or, “when they will be made to know or realize the nature of the Fire".

کاش تم اس وقت ان کی حالت دیکھ سکتے جب وہ دوزخ کے کنارے کھڑے کیے جائیں گے اس وقت وہ کہیں گے کہ کاش کوئی صورت ایسی ہو کہ ہم دنیا میں پھر واپس بھیجے جائیں اور اپنے رب کی نشانیوں کو نہ جھٹلائیں اور ایمان لانے والوں میں شامل ہوں

English - Sahih

If you could but see when they are made to stand before the Fire and will say, "Oh, would that we could be returned [to life on earth] and not deny the signs of our Lord and be among the believers."

کاش تم اس وقت کی حالت دیکھ سکتے جب وہ دوزخ کے کنارے کھڑے کیے جائیں گے اس وقت کہیں گے کاش کوئی صورت ایسی ہو کہ ہم واپس بھیج دیے جائیں اور اپنے رب کی نشانیوں کو نہ جھٹلائیں اور ایمان والوں میں ہوجائیں

If thou couldst see when they are stationed before the Fire, and they say, 'Would that we might be returned, and then not cry lies to the signs of our Lord, but that we might be among the believers!'

If you could but see when they shall be made to stand by the Fire! They will plead: 'Would that we were brought back to life? Then we would not give the lie to the signs of our Lord and would be among the believers.'
