هَٰٓأَنتُمْ أُو۟لَآءِ تُحِبُّونَهُمْ وَلَا يُحِبُّونَكُمْ وَتُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْكِتَٰبِ كُلِّهِۦ وَإِذَا لَقُوكُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا وَإِذَا خَلَوْا۟ عَضُّوا۟ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْأَنَامِلَ مِنَ ٱلْغَيْظِ ۚ قُلْ مُوتُوا۟ بِغَيْظِكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Behold, you are those who love them, but they love you not. And you believe in all the Book. When they meet you, they say, ‘We believe;’ but when they are alone, they bite their finger-tips at you for rage. Say, ‘Perish in your rage. Surely, Allah knows well what is hidden in your breasts.’

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

تم ایسے عجیب ہو کہ ان سے محبت کرتے ہو جبکہ وہ تم سے محبت نہیں کرتے اور تم ساری کتاب پر ایمان لاتے ہو۔ اور جب وہ تم سے ملتے ہیں تو کہتے ہیں کہ ہم ایمان لے آئے ہیں اور جب الگ ہوتے ہیں تو تمہارے خلاف غیظ سے اپنی انگلیوں کے پورے کاٹتے ہیں۔ تُو کہہ دے کہ اپنے ہی غُصہ سے مر جاؤ۔ یقیناً اللہ سینوں کی باتوں کا خوب علم رکھتا ہے۔

French

Comment vous êtes drôles ! Vous les aimez alors qu’ils ne vous aiment pas. Et vous croyez au Livre tout entier. Lorsqu’ils vous rencontrent, ils disent : « Nous croyons, » mais quand ils sont seuls, ils se mordent les bouts des doigts, tant ils sont fous de rage contre vous. Dis : « Mourez de votre rage. En vérité, Allāh connaît très bien ce qui est caché dans les cœurs. »

German

Seht her, ihr liebt sie, sie aber lieben euch nicht. Und ihr glaubt an das ganze Buch. Wenn sie euch treffen, sagen sie: "Wir glauben"; sobald sie aber allein sind, beißen sie sich in die Fingerspitzen vor Zorn gegen euch. Sprich: "Sterbet an eurem Zorn." Wahrlich, Allah weiß das Innerste der Seelen wohl.

切须听着! 你们是爱他们的人, 但他们并不爱你们。[c]你们信仰天经的全部内容。当他们会见你们时, 他们说: “我们也信仰了。” 在他们离开你们时, 由于对你们的盛怒, 他们咬自己的手指。你 (对他们) 说: “你们在盛怒中毁灭吧![275]安拉全知你们心胸所隐藏的。”

Badate! Voi siete coloro che li amano, ma essi non vi amano. E voi credete nel libro tutto intero. Quando essi vi incontrano, dicono: «Noi crediamo», ma quando sono soli si mordono le punta delle dita per la rabbia contro di voi. Di': «Perite nella vostra rabbia. Certamente Allah sa bene ciò che si nasconde nei vostri petti.»

Spanish

He ahí que vosotros los amáis, pero ellos no os aman. Y vosotros creéis en todo el Libro. Cuando se reúnen con vosotros, dicen: “Creemos”; pero cuando están solos se muerden las yemas de los dedos de rabia contra vosotros. Diles: “Morid en vuestra rabia. En verdad, Al-lah conoce bien lo que está oculto en vuestros corazones”.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

سنو! تم وہ لوگ ہو جو ان سے محبت رکھتے ہو حالانکہ وہ تم سے محبت نہیں رکھتے اور تم سب (کی سب) کتاب پر ایمان لاتے ہو اور جب وہ تم سے ملیں تو کہہ دیتے ہیں کہ ہم (بھی) ایمان رکھتے ہیں اور جب وہ علیحدہ ہوتے ہیں تو تمہارے خلاف غصہ سے انگلیاں کاٹتے ہیں۔ تو (ان سے) کہہ دے تم اپنے غصہ (کے سبب) سے مرجاؤ۔ اللہ یقیناً سینہ کے رازوں تک کو بھی جانتا ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

Behold, you are those who love them, but they love you not. [d]And you believe in the Book,[464] all of it. When they meet you, they say, ‘We believe;’ but when they are alone, they bite their finger-tips at you for rage. Say, ‘Perish in your rage.[465] Surely, Allah has full knowledge of what is hidden in your breasts.’

The words, Perish in your rage, have been addressed to such Jews as are the enemies of Islam and seek to destroy it.

Commentary:

As borne out by the context, words like "and they do not believe in all the Book" must be taken to be understood after the words, you believe in all the Book.

The words, perish in your rage, have been addressed to such Jews as are the enemies of Islam and seek to destroy it. The words are meant as a rebuke. When every effort has been made to reform them, and they would not listen, then they should suffer the consequence of their blind hostility.

تم ان سے محبت رکھتے ہو مگر وہ تم سے محبت نہیں رکھتے حالانکہ تم تمام کتب آسمانی کو مانتے ہو جب وہ تم سے ملتے ہیں تو کہتے ہیں کہ ہم نے بھی (تمہارے رسول اور تمہاری کتاب کو) مان لیا ہے، مگر جب جدا ہوتے ہیں تو تمہارے خلاف ان کے غیظ و غضب کا یہ حال ہوتا ہے کہ اپنی انگلیاں چبانے لگتے ہیں ان سے کہہ دو کہ اپنے غصہ میں آپ جل مرو اللہ دلوں کے چھپے ہوئے راز تک جانتا ہے

English - Sahih

Here you are loving them but they are not loving you, while you believe in the Scripture - all of it. And when they meet you, they say, "We believe." But when they are alone, they bite their fingertips at you in rage. Say, "Die in your rage. Indeed, Allah is Knowing of that within the breasts."

سن لو تم ان کے دوست ہو اور وہ تمہارے دوست نہیں اور تم تو سب کتابوں کو مانتے ہو اور جب وہ تم سے ملتے ہیں تو کہتے ہیں کہ ہم مسلمان ہیں اور جب الگ ہوتے ہیں تو تم پر غصہ سے انگلیاں کاٹ کاٹ کھاتے ہیں کہہ دو تم اپنے غصہ میں مرو الله کو دلوں کی باتیں خوب معلوم ہیں

Lo! You are those, you love them but not they love you and you believe in the Book - all of it. And when they meet you they say, "We believe." And when they are alone they bite at you the finger tips (out) of [the] rage. Say, "Die in your rage. Indeed. Allah (is) All-Knowing of what (is in) the breasts."

Ha, there you are; you love them, and they love you not; you believe in the Book, all of it, and when they meet you they say, 'We believe,' but when they go privily, they bite at you their fingers, enraged. Say: 'Die in your rage; God knows the thoughts in the breasts.'

English - Maududi

Lo! It is you who love them but they do not love you even though you believe in the whole of the (heavenly) Book. When they meet you they say: 'We believe', but when they are by themselves they bite their fingers in rage at you. Say: 'Perish in your rage.' Allah knows even what lies hidden in their breasts.

Just think! You hold them as your friends but they do not, even though you believe in all the Scriptures. When they meet you they say: "We believe;" but when they are alone they bite their fingers in rage. Say: "Die of your rage. God is aware of the secrets of the hearts."
