(K.) ― 2-b2- هَلَكَتْ أَرْضُهُ His land had its herbage dried up by drought: see جَرِبَ.

وَمَا کَانَ رَبُّکَ مُہۡلِکَ الۡقُرٰی حَتّٰی یَبۡعَثَ فِیۡۤ اُمِّہَا رَسُوۡلًا یَّتۡلُوۡا عَلَیۡہِمۡ اٰیٰتِنَا ۚ وَمَا کُنَّا مُہۡلِکِی الۡقُرٰۤی اِلَّا وَاَہۡلُہَا ظٰلِمُوۡنَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And thy Lord would never destroy the towns until He has raised in the mother town thereof a Messenger, reciting unto them Our Signs; nor would We destroy the towns unless the people thereof are wrongdoers.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور تیرا ربّ بستیوں کو ہلاک نہیں کرتا یہاں تک کہ ان (بستیوں) کی ماں میں رسول مبعوث کرچکا ہوتا ہے جو اُن پر ہماری آیات پڑھتا ہے۔ اور ہم اس کے سوا بستیوں کو ہلاک نہیں کرتے کہ ان کے بسنے والے ظالم ہوچکے ہوں۔

Et ton Seigneur ne détruirait jamais les villes sans avoir suscité dans la ville-mère un Messager leur récitant Nos Signes ; et Nous ne détruirions pas les villes à moins que leurs habitants ne soient des injustes.

Und dein Herr würde nie die Städte zerstören, Er hätte denn zuvor in derer Mutterstadt einen Gesandten erweckt, ihnen Unsere Zeichen vorzutragen; noch zerstören Wir Städte, ohne dass ihre Bewohner voll Ungerechtigkeit sind.

Mas tu Señor nunca destruiría las ciudades mientras no suscitara en la ciudad madre de las mismas un Mensajero que les recitara Nuestros Signos; ni destruiríamos las ciudades a menos que sus gentes fuesen malvadas.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور تیرا رب جب تک کسی مرکزی بستی میں ایسا رسول نہ بھیج دے جو ان کے سامنے ہماری آیتیں پڑھ کر سنائے ان بستیوں کے مجموعہ[3] (یعنی ملک) کو ہلاک کرنے کا ارتکاب نہیں کر سکتا تھا (کیونکہ یہ انصاف کے خلاف ہے) اور ہم بستیوں کو کبھی ہلاک نہیں کرتے سوائے اس کے کہ ان کے رہنے والے ظالم ہو جائیں۔

اردو میں بستی کی جمع بستیاں بغیر خاص ضرورت کے نہیں آتی اور عربی میں بستیوں سے مراد ملک ہوتا ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

[a]And thy Lord would never destroy the towns until He has raised in the mother-town thereof a Messenger,[2226] reciting unto them Our Signs; nor would We destroy the towns unless the people thereof were wrongdoers.

[c]And thy Lord would never destroy the towns until He has raised in the mother-town thereof a Messenger, reciting unto them Our Signs; nor would We destroy the towns unless the people thereof are wrongdoers.[2920]

Commentary:

Two laws have been enunciated in this verse: (1) No people are punished until God has first raised among them a Messenger who warns them of the impending punishment and exhorts them to repent and give up their evil ways. (2) No people are punished unless they have given themselves up to sin and iniquity and have completely closed the doors of repentance upon themselves.

The unusual frequency and universality of natural calamities in the form of famines, wars, earthquakes and epidemics during the last five or six decades call for the appearance of a Divine Messenger in the present time. That Divine Messenger appeared in the fullness of time in the person of Ahmad, the Promised Messiah and Holy Founder of the Ahmadiyya Movement.

اور تیرا رب بستیوں کو ہلاک کرنے والا نہ تھا جب تک کہ ان کے مرکز میں ایک رسُول نہ بھیج دیتا جو ان کو ہماری آیات سُناتا اور ہم بستیوں کو ہلاک کرنے والے نہ تھے جب تک کہ ان کے رہنے والے ظالم نہ ہو جاتے

English - Sahih

And never would your Lord have destroyed the cities until He had sent to their mother a messenger reciting to them Our verses. And We would not destroy the cities except while their people were wrongdoers.

اور تیرا رب بستیوں کو ہلاک نہیں کیا کرتا جب تک ان کے بڑے شہر میں پیغمبر نہ بھیج لے جو انہیں ہماری آیتیں پڑھ کر سنائے اور ہم بستیوں کو ہلاک نہیں کیا کرتے مگر اس حالت میں کہ وہاں کے باشندے ظالم ہوں
