اس کے یہ معنے نہیں کہ میں دفاع نہیں کروں گا بلکہ یہ معنے ہیں کہ میں دفاع اس شدت سے نہیں کروں گا جس کا لازمی نتیجہ دشمن کا قتل ہو۔
Commentary:
The expression, I am not going to stretch out my hand against thee to kill thee, does not mean that Abel did not even desire to defend himself. These words only mean that if he were forced to stretch forth his hand towards his brother, it would not be with the intention of slaying him, but only in self-defence. The declaration was necessary, for there are cases in which both the slayer and the slain become equally guilty. The Holy Prophet is reported to have said that not unoften "both the slayer and the slain go to Hell." This hadith obviously refers to such slain persons as engage in a fight with the intention of killing their opponents, but it so happens that the latter get the better of them and kill them. In such cases, the intention of both parties being equally criminal, both are guilty and both deserve to be cast into Hell. But Abel, who desired to live righteously and die righteously, would not stain his conduct even in a moment of extreme danger and wanted to take good care that he did not overstep the limits of the right of self-defence.

محسورا (exhausted) is derived from حسر which means, he was or became weary and tired. حسر الدابة means, the beast was fatigued so that it was left to remain where it was. حسر البصر means, the eye became weak and fatigued by looking for long. حسر البیت means, he swept the house. محسور means, a man who has given all that he had, so that nothing remains in his possession. Being synonymous with حسیر it means, tired, fatigued or jaded by much travel; grieving or regretting most intensely (Lane & Aqrab).
Commentary:
The verse teaches the right way of spending one’s money. One should not be so miserly as not to spend it even when there is a real and genuine need as if his hands are tied to his neck, nor should one stretch forth one’s hands so openly as to squander away his wealth purposelessly. One should strike the golden mean.
The expression, lest thou sit down blamed or exhausted, means to say that a person who squanders away his money thoughtlessly and without purpose does not have anything left with him, so that when money is required for a real national need, he finds to his regret that he cannot contribute to it. Not only can he then not help the national cause but he loses his self-respect also; and by thus falling in the estimation of his compatriots he becomes permanently deprived of the opportunity to serve his country or community in the hour of its need.

ہاتھ عربی زبان کے محاورہ میں بھائیوں اور قوم کو کہتے ہیں۔ پس اس کا مطلب یہ تھا کہ اے موسٰیؑ ! اپنی قوم کو اپنے ساتھ چمٹائے رکھ۔ اس کا نتیجہ یہ ہوگا کہ تیری تربیت سے وہ نیک اور اچھی ہو جائے گی اور بے عیب بن جائے گی اور کوئی برائی اس میں باقی نہ رہے گی۔ چنانچہ ہم دیکھتے ہیں کہ موسٰیؑ کی قوم موسٰیؑ کے آنے سے پہلے نہایت گندی ہو گئی تھی اور
