اِنَّکَ لَا تُسۡمِعُ الۡمَوۡتٰی وَلَا تُسۡمِعُ الصُّمَّ الدُّعَآءَ اِذَا وَلَّوۡا مُدۡبِرِیۡنَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Verily, thou canst not make the dead to hear, nor canst thou make the deaf to hear the call, when they turn back retreating.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

تو ہرگز مُردوں کو نہیں سنا سکتا اور نہ ہی بہروں کو (اپنی) پکار سنا سکتا ہے جب وہ پیٹھ دکھاتے ہوئے منہ پھیر لیتے ہیں۔

French

En vérité, tu ne peux faire les morts entendre, et tu ne peux non plus faire les sourds entendre l’appel, lorsqu’ils tournent le dos et s’en vont.

German

Du kannst die Toten nicht hörend machen, noch kannst du bewirken, dass die Tauben den Anruf hören, wenn sie den Rücken kehren;

你绝不能使死者听到, 当聋子转身退避的时候, [b]你也不能使他们听到呼唤。

Certo, non puoi far sentire i morti, né puoi far udire l'appello ai sordi, quando ti volgono le spalle andandosene.

Por cierto que no puedes hacer que los muertos oigan, ni puedes hacer que los sordos escuchen la llamada, cuando dan la espalda en retirada.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

تو ہرگز مردوں کو نہیں سنا سکتا اور نہ بہروں کو ہی (اپنی) آواز سنا سکتا ہے۔ (خصوصاً) جبکہ وہ پیٹھ پھیر کر چلے جاتے ہیں۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

Verily, thou canst not make the dead to hear, [d]nor canst thou make the deaf to hear the call, when they retreat turning their backs.[2189]

10:43; 30:53.

The words, when they retreat turning their backs, make it clear that 'the dead' mentioned here are 'the spiritually dead' just as 'the blind' in the next verse are 'the spiritually blind.'

English - Five Volume Translation

Verily, thou canst not make the dead to hear, [b]nor canst thou make the deaf to hear the call, when they turn back retreating.[2865]

Commentary:

The words, "when they turn back retreating", can equally be applied to both "the dead" and "the deaf", thus making it clear that "the dead" mentioned here are "the spiritually dead" as the blind in the next verse are "the spiritually blind". Wherever in the Quran the Holy Prophet is mentioned with reference to "the dead" they are the "spiritually dead" or "the dead of heart" (8:25).

تم مُردوں کو نہیں سنا سکتے، نہ اُن بہروں تک اپنی پکار پہنچا سکتے ہو جو پیٹھ پھیر کر بھاگے جا رہے ہوں

English - Sahih

Indeed, you will not make the dead hear, nor will you make the deaf hear the call when they have turned their backs retreating.

البتہ تو مردوں کو نہیں سنا سکتا اور نہ بہروں کو اپنی پکارسنا سکتا ہے جب وہ پیٹھ پھیر کر لوٹیں

Indeed, you (can) not cause to hear the dead and not can you cause to hear the deaf the call when they turn back retreating.
