28:48

وَلَوْلَآ أَن تُصِيبَهُم مُّصِيبَةٌۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ فَيَقُولُوا۟ رَبَّنَا لَوْلَآ أَرْسَلْتَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولًا فَنَتَّبِعَ ءَايَٰتِكَ وَنَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And had it not been for the fact that, if an affliction should befall them because of what their hands have sent before them, they would say, ‘Our Lord, wherefore didst Thou not send a Messenger to us that we might have followed Thy Signs, and been of the believers?’ We should not have sent thee as a Messenger.

اور مبادا انہیں کوئی مصیبت پہنچے بسبب اس کے جو اُن کے ہاتھوں نے آگے بھیجا تو وہ کہیں کہ اے ہمارے ربّ! کیوں نہ تو نے ہماری طرف کوئی رسول بھیجا تاکہ ہم تیری آیات کی پیروی کرتے اور مومنوں میں سے ہوجاتے۔

French

Et pourquoi donc, lorsqu’une affliction leur survient à cause de ce qu’ils ont fait eux-mêmes, ne disent-ils pas : « Notre Seigneur, pourquoi ne nous as-Tu pas envoyé un Messager afin que nous puissions suivre Tes Signes et être du nombre des croyants ? »

Und wäre es nicht, dass sie, wenn ein Unglück sie treffen sollte um dessentwillen, was ihre Hände vorausgesandt, sprechen könnten: "Unser Herr, warum hast Du uns nicht einen Gesandten geschickt, dass wir Deine Zeichen hätten befolgen mögen, und wir wären unter den Gläubigen gewesen?"(, hätten Wir dich nicht entsandt.)

如果不是想到, 当他们由于自己的行为面临任何灾难时, 他们会说: [f]“我们的养主啊! 为什么不曾向我们派遣任何使者, 以便我们顺从你的启示而做为信仰的人?” (那么, 也许我不把你做为使者派遣到他们那里)。

E se non fosse che, quando un'afflizione si abbatte su di loro a causa del loro operato, essi dicono: «Signore nostro, perché non ci hai mandato un Tuo messaggero, così che potessimo seguire i Tuoi segni ed essere tra i credenti?»,* Noi non ti avremmo inviato come messaggero.

Y por qué no dicen, cuando la desgracia cae sobre ellos como resultado de sus propias acciones: “Señor Nuestro, ¿por qué no nos enviaste un Mensajero para que hubiéramos podido seguir Tus signos y ser de los creyentes?”.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور اگر یہ خیال نہ ہوتا کہ وہ اپنے اعمال کی وجہ سے کسی مصیبت کے آنے پر کہیں گے اے ہمارے رب! تو نے ہماری طرف کوئی رسول نہ بھیجا‘ تا کہ ہم تیری آیتوں کے پیچھے چلتے اور مومنوں میں سے بن جاتے (تو شاید ہم تجھے رسول بنا کر نہ بھیجتے مگر کفار پر حجت قائم کرنا ضروری تھا)

English - Short Commentary Translation

And were it not that if an affliction should befall them because of what their hands have sent before them, they would say, [a]‘Our Lord, wherefore didst Thou not send a Messenger to us that we might have followed Thy commandments and been of the believers?’ We should not have sent thee as a Messenger.

20:135.

English - Five Volume Translation

And were it not that if an affliction should befall them because of what their hands have sent before them, they would say, [c]‘Our Lord, wherefore didst Thou not send a Messenger to us that we might have followed Thy Signs, and been of the believers?’ We should not have sent thee as Messenger.[2910]

Commentary:

The sense implied in the verse is that by their iniquities and transgressions the disbelievers render themselves deserving of God’s punishment but as it is inconsistent with His justice and mercy to punish them without first giving them an opportunity to reform themselves, so He raises a Prophet among them so that when punishment should overtake them they might not say that they were not given an opportunity to reform themselves by following the Divine Prophet if one had appeared among them.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

(اور یہ ہم نے اس لیے کیا کہ) کہیں ایسا نہ ہو کہ اُن کے اپنے کیے کرتوتوں کی بدولت کوئی مصیبت جب اُن پر آئے تو وہ کہیں "اے پروردگار، تُو نے کیوں نہ ہماری طرف کوئی رسول بھیجا کہ ہم تیری آیات کی پیروی کرتے اور اہلِ ایمان میں سے ہوتے"

English - Sahih

And if not that a disaster should strike them for what their hands put forth [of sins] and they would say, "Our Lord, why did You not send us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses and been among the believers?"...

اور اگر یہ بات نہ ہوتی کہ ان کے اپنے ہی اعمال کے سبب سے ان پر مصیبت نازل ہوجائے پھر کہتے اے ہمارے رب! تو نے ہمارے پاس رسول کیوں نہ بھیجا تاکہ ہم تیرے حکموں کی تابعداری کرتے اور ایمان والو ں میں ہوتے

And if not [that] struck them a disaster for what had sent forth their hands and they would say, "Our Lord! Why not You sent to us a Messenger so we (could have) followed Your Verses and we (would) have been of the believers?"

Else, did an affliction visit them for that their own hands have forwarded then they might say, 'Our Lord, why didst Thou not send a Messenger to us that we might follow Thy signs and so be among the believers?'

(We did so) lest a calamity might seize them because of the misdeeds they committed whereafter they would say: "Our Lord, why did you not send a Messenger to us that we follow Your revelation and become among those who believe?"

And in case disaster comes upon them for what they have done themselves, they should say: "O Lord, why did You not send an apostle to us that we should have followed Your commands, and been with those who are believers;"

If (We had) not (sent thee to the Quraish),- in case a calamity should seize them for (the deeds) that their hands have sent forth, they might say: "Our Lord! why didst Thou not send us a messenger? We should then have followed Thy Signs and been amongst those who believe!"
