Commentary:
Jonah, the Prophet, has been mentioned at six places in the Quran. In 4:164 and 6:87-88 he has been reckoned among the Prophets of God. In the present verse he has been spoken of as a Divine Messenger and in 21:88 and 68:49, he has been given the descriptive epithets of ذوالنون (Master of the Fish) and صاحب الحوت (Fellow of the Fish). He was an Israelite Prophet and lived in the 9th century in the reign of Jeroboam II or Jehoahaz. See also 6:88.
