وَقَالَ الَّذِیۡنَ فِی النَّارِ لِخَزَنَۃِ جَہَنَّمَ ادۡعُوۡا رَبَّکُمۡ یُخَفِّفۡ عَنَّا یَوۡمًا مِّنَ الۡعَذَابِ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And those in the Fire will say to the Keepers of Hell, ‘Pray to your Lord that He may lighten for us the punishment for a single day.’

اور وہ لوگ جو آگ میں ہوں گے جہنّم کے داروغوں سے کہیں گے کہ اپنے ربّ سے دعا کرو کہ ہم سے کسی دن تو کچھ عذاب ہلکا کردے۔

French

Et ceux qui sont dans le Feu diront aux Gardiens de l’Enfer : « Implorez votre Seigneur pour qu’Il nous allège le châtiment pour un seul jour. »

Und die in dem Feuer werden zu den Wächtern der Hölle sprechen: "Betet zu eurem Herrn, dass Er uns einen Tag von der Strafe erlasse."

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور دوزخی لوگ دوزخ کے داروغوں سے کہیں گے‘ تم اپنے رب کو پکارو کہ عذاب کا کچھ وقت تو ہم سے کم کرے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

And those in the Fire will say to the Keepers of Hell, ‘Pray to your Lord that He may lighten for us the punishment for a day.’

English - Five Volume Translation

And those in the Fire will say to the Keepers of Hell, ‘Pray to your Lord that He [d]may lighten for us the punishment for a day.’[3530]

6:28; 23:108.

Commentary:

The word یوم meaning time absolutely; a day or part of a day (Lane), the verse purports to say that disbelievers will implore the keepers of Hell to intercede with God on their behalf that He may lighten their punishment—it may be, for a little while.

پھر یہ دوزخ میں پڑے ہوئے لوگ جہنم کے اہل کاروں سے کہیں گے "اپنے رب سے دعا کرو کہ ہمارے عذاب میں بس ایک دن کی تخفیف کر دے"

English - Sahih

And those in the Fire will say to the keepers of Hell, "Supplicate your Lord to lighten for us a day from the punishment."

اور دوزخی جہنم کے داروغہ سے کہیں گے کہ تم اپنے رب سے عرض کرو کہ وہ ہم سے کسی روز تو عذاب ہلکا کر دیا کرے

And will say those in the Fire to (the) keepers (of) Hell, "Call your Lord (to) lighten for us a day of the punishment."

And those who are in the Fire will say to the keepers of Gehenna, 'Call on your Lord, to lighten for us one day of the chastisement!'

Those suffering in the Fire will say to the keepers of Hell: “Call upon your Lord to lighten the chastisement for us just for a day.”

Those in the Fire will say to the warders of Hell: "Ask your Lord to reduce the punishment by a day for us."
