40:83
اَفَلَمۡ یَسِیۡرُوۡا فِی الۡاَرۡضِ فَیَنۡظُرُوۡا کَیۡفَ کَانَ عٰقِبَۃُ الَّذِیۡنَ مِنۡ قَبۡلِہِمۡ ۚ کَانُوۡۤا اَکۡثَرَ مِنۡہُمۡ وَاَشَدَّ قُوَّۃً وَّاٰثَارًا فِی الۡاَرۡضِ فَمَاۤ اَغۡنٰی عَنۡہُمۡ مَّا کَانُوۡا یَکۡسِبُوۡنَ
English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
Have they not travelled in the earth that they might see what was the end of those who were before them? They were more numerous than these, and mightier in power and in the marks they left behind them in the earth. But all that which they earned was of no avail to them.

پس کیا انہوں نے زمین میں سیر نہیں کی کہ وہ دیکھ لیتے کہ ان لوگوں کا انجام کیسا ہوا جو اُن سے پہلے تھے؟ وہ اُن سے تعداد میں بڑھ کر تھے اور قوت میں بھی، نیز زمین میں (عظمت کے) نشان چھوڑنے کے لحاظ سے بھی زیادہ شدید تھے۔ پھر بھی وہ کسب اُن کے کچھ کام نہ آئے جو وہ کیا کرتے تھے۔
French
N’ont-ils pas parcouru la terre afin de voir quelle a été la fin de ceux qui les ont devancés ? Ils étaient plus nombreux qu’eux, et plus puissants qu’eux et plus avancés qu’eux quant aux vestiges qu’ils ont laissés sur la terre. Mais tout ce qu’ils ont acquis ne leur a servi à rien.

Sind sie nicht auf der Erde umhergereist, um zu sehen, wie das Ende derer war, die vor ihnen waren? Sie waren zahlreicher als diese und stärker an Macht und in den Spuren (die sie) auf Erden (hinterließen). Doch alles, was sie erwarben, nützte ihnen nichts.

[c]难道他们不在大地上旅行以便观察他们以前人们的结局是怎样的? 从前的人比他们的数量更为众多; 比他们的力量和在地面上他们所留于后边的痕迹更为强大。但是他们往常的行为对他们都没有益处。

Non sono forse andati in giro per la terra, per vedere quale fu la fine di quelli che erano prima di loro? Erano più numerosi di loro, e più forti nella potenza e nel lasciare tracce sulla terra. Ma tutto quello che guadagnarono non fu di alcun vantaggio per essi.

Acaso no han viajado por la tierra para poder ver cuál fue el final de quienes los precedieron? Fueron más numerosos que éstos, más fuertes en su poder y en las huellas que dejaron tras ellos en la tierra. Pero todo lo que consiguieron no les sirvió de nada.
اردو تفسیرِ صغیر
کیا یہ زمین میں نہیں پھرے کہ دیکھتے کہ ان سے پہلوں کا انجام کیسا ہوا؟ وہ ملک میں ان سے تعداد اور طاقت میں بھی زیادہ تھے اور عمارت وغیرہ کے فنون میں بھی زیادہ (ماہر) تھے۔ لیکن ان کے اعمال نے ان کو کوئی نفع نہیں دیا تھا۔

[d]Have they not travelled in the earth that they might see what was the end of those who were before them? They were more numerous than these, and mightier in power and left firmer traces in the earth. But all that which they earned was of no avail to them.

Commentary:
After having been reminded, in the last three verses, of the many Divine blessings and favours, the greatest of which is that God has revealed His will to mankind and has sent His Messengers to guide them, the disbelievers are warned in the present verse that if they refused to accept God’s Message and opposed His Messenger, they will be visited with Heavenly punishment as disbelievers were punished in the past.

پھر کیا یہ زمین میں چلے پھرے نہیں ہیں کہ اِن کو اُن لوگوں کا انجام نظر آتا جو اِن سے پہلے گزر چکے ہیں؟ وہ اِن سے تعداد میں زیادہ تھے، اِن سے بڑھ کر طاقتور تھے، اور زمین میں اِن سے زیادہ شاندار آثار چھوڑ گئے ہیں جو کچھ کمائی اُنہوں نے کی تھی، آخر وہ اُن کے کس کام آئی؟

Have they not traveled through the land and observed how was the end of those before them? They were more numerous than themselves and greater in strength and in impression on the land, but they were not availed by what they used to earn.

پس کیا انہوں نے ملک میں چل پھر کر نہیں دیکھا کہ جو لوگ ان سے پہلے ہو گزرے ہیں ان کا کیا انجام ہوا وہ لوگ ان سے زیادہ تھے اور قوت اور نشانوں میں (بھی) جو کہ زمین پر چھوڑگئے ہیں بڑھے ہوئے تھے پس ان کے نہ کام آیا جو کچھ وہ کماتے تھے
