اَوَلَمۡ یَہۡدِ لِلَّذِیۡنَ یَرِثُوۡنَ الۡاَرۡضَ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِ اَہۡلِہَاۤ اَنۡ لَّوۡ نَشَآءُ اَصَبۡنٰہُمۡ بِذُنُوۡبِہِمۡ ۚ وَنَطۡبَعُ عَلٰی قُلُوۡبِہِمۡ فَہُمۡ لَا یَسۡمَعُوۡنَ
English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
Does it not afford guidance to those who have inherited the earth in succession to its former inhabitants, that if We please, We can smite them for their sins and seal up their hearts, so that they should not hear?
اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ
اور کیا اُن لوگوں کو جنہوں نے زمین اس میں بسنے والوں کے بعد ورثہ میں پائی یہ بات ہدایت نہ دے سکی کہ اگر ہم چاہیں تو انہیں ان کے گناہوں کی پاداش میں سزا دیں اور ان کے دلوں پر مہر کر دیں۔ پھر وہ کچھ سُن (اور سمجھ) نہ سکیں۔

Cela ne sert-il pas de guide à ceux qui ont reçu la terre en héritage après ses anciens habitants pour qu’ils réalisent que si Nous le voulons, Nous pouvons les frapper aussi pour leurs péchés, et leur sceller le cœur, de sorte qu’ils ne puissent rien écouter ou comprendre ?

Leuchtet das jenen nicht ein, die die Erde ererbt haben nach ihren (früheren) Bewohnern, dass Wir, wenn es Uns gefällt, sie treffen können für ihre Sünden und ihre Herzen versiegeln, so dass sie nicht verstehen?

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر
کیا ان لوگوں کو جو اس کے اصل باشندوں کے بعد زمین کے وارث بنے اس بات نے عقل نہیں دی کہ اگر ہم چاہیں تو ان کے گناہوں کی وجہ سے ان پر بھی عذاب نازل کر سکتے ہیں اور ان کے دلوں پر مہر بھی لگا سکتے ہیں جس کی وجہ سے وہ ہدایت کی باتوں کو سن نہیں سکیں گے۔

[a]Does it not afford guidance to those who have inherited the earth in succession to its former inhabitants, that if We please, We can smite them for their sins and [b]seal up their hearts, so that they should not understand?[997]

Commentary:
The veiled threat in the preceding verse is openly made in the present one. The enemies of Islam should either take lesson from the sad end of those gone before them and give up offering opposition to it or be prepared for a similar doom. The word یسمعون (understand) here signifies not listening but understanding (Lane).
اردو ترجمہ مودودی
اور کیا اُن لوگوں کو جو سابق اہل زمین کے بعد زمین کے وارث ہوتے ہیں، اِس امر واقعی نے کچھ سبق نہیں دیا کہ اگر ہم چاہیں تو ان کے قصوروں پر انہیں پکڑ سکتے ہیں؟ (مگر وہ سبق آموز حقائق سے تغافل برتتے ہیں) اور ہم ان کے دلوں پر مہر لگا دیتے ہیں، پھر وہ کچھ نہیں سنتے

Has it not become clear to those who inherited the earth after its [previous] people that if We willed, We could afflict them for their sins? But We seal over their hearts so they do not hear.

کیا ان لوگو ں پر جو زمین کے وارث ہوئے ہیں وہاں کے لوگوں کے ہلاک ہونے کے بعد یہ ظاہر نہیں ہوا کہ اگر ہم چاہیں تو انہیں ان کے گناہوں کے سبب سے پکڑ لیں اور ہم نے ان کے دلوں پر مہر لگا دی ہے پس وہ نہیں سنتے

Is it not a guidance to those who inherit the earth after those who inhabited it that, did We will, We would smite them because of their sins, sealing their hearts so they do not hear?

Has it not, then, become plain to those who have inherited the earth in the wake of the former generations that, had We so willed, We could have afflicted them for their sins, (they, however, are heedless to basic facts and so) We seal their hearts so that they hear nothing.

Do not the people who inherited the earth from the (earlier) inhabitants perceive that We could afflict them too for their sins if We pleased, and put seals on their hearts that they may not hear (the voice of truth)?
