وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلٌ ۖ فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَجَلُهُمْ لَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ سَاعَةً ۖ وَلَا يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And for every people there is a term, and when their term is come, they cannot remain behind a single moment, nor can they get ahead of it.

اور ہر امّت کے لئے ایک میعاد مقرر ہے۔ پس جب ان کا مقررہ وقت آجائے تو ایک لمحہ بھی نہ وہ اس سے پیچھے رہ سکتے ہیں اور نہ آگے بڑھ سکتے ہیں۔

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور ہر قوم کے لئے ایک (خاتمہ کا) وقت [2]مقرر ہے پس جب ان (کے خاتمہ) کا وقت آجائے تو وہ نہ اس سے ایک گھڑی پیچھے رہ سکتے ہیں اور نہ (ایک گھڑی) آگے بڑھ سکتے ہیں۔

یہ مطلب نہیں کہ تقدیر سے مدّت مقرر کر دی ہے بلکہ تقدیر نے اعمال مقرر کر دئیے ہیں جن سے قوم کی عمر گھٹتی یا بڑھتی ہے۔ جب نیک اعمال سے قوم ہٹے گی تو وہ تباہ ہو جائے گی۔ پس مدّت سے مراد وہ قانون ہے جس کے ماتحت مدت لمبی یا چھوٹی ہوگی ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

And for [d]every people there is a term, and when their term is come, they cannot remain behind a single moment, nor can they get ahead[969] of it.

When the time fixed for the punishment of a people arrives, it cannot be averted, delayed or postponed.

And [a]for every people there is a term, and when their term is come, they cannot remain behind a single moment, nor can they get ahead of it.[935]

Important Words:

یستقدمون (get ahead) is derived from قدم i.e. he preceded; or he came before; or he headed (someone else). استقدم القوم means, he preceded the people, or he went ahead of the people, or he went before them (Lane & Aqrab). As one who gets ahead of a thing virtually leaves it behind, therefore, the idea in یستقدمون (get ahead) is that of escaping.

یستأخرون (remain behind) is derived from اخر. They say استأخرالقوم i.e. he remained behind the people. استأخر also means, he or it was put behind or put off or delayed (Lane & Aqrab). As one who remains behind a thing virtually puts the thing off, therefore, the idea in یستأخرون (remain behind) is that of putting off.

Commentary:

The verse means that when the time fixed for the punishment of a people comes, it cannot be averted. Disbelievers, who have incurred it, can neither escape it nor put it off by a single moment.

ہر قوم کے لیے مہلت کی ایک مدت مقرر ہے، پھر جب کسی قوم کی مدت آن پوری ہوتی ہے تو ایک گھڑی بھر کی تاخیر و تقدیم بھی نہیں ہوتی

And for every nation is a [specified] term. So when their time has come, they will not remain behind an hour, nor will they precede [it].

اور ہر ایک گروہ کے لیے ایک معیاد معین ہے پھر جب وہ معیاد ختم ہو گی اور وقت نہ ایک گھڑی پیچھے ہٹیں گے اور نہ آگے بڑھیں گے
