8:39

قُل لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ إِن يَنتَهُوا۟ يُغْفَرْ لَهُم مَّا قَدْ سَلَفَ وَإِن يَعُودُوا۟ فَقَدْ مَضَتْ سُنَّتُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Say to those who disbelieve, if they desist, that which is past will be forgiven them; and if they return thereto, then verily, the example of the former peoples has already gone before them.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

جنہوں نے کفر کیا اُن سے کہہ دے کہ اگر وہ باز آجائیں تو جو کچھ گزر چکا وہ انہیں معاف کر دیا جائے گا لیکن اگر وہ (جرم کا) اِعادہ کریں تو یقیناً (اِن جیسے) پہلوں کی سنت گزر چکی ہے۔

French

Dis aux mécréants, que s’ils renoncent à leur méchanceté, ce qui est passé leur sera pardonné ; et que s’ils y retournent, alors en vérité, l’exemple des anciens peuples est déjà devant eux.

Sprich zu denen, die ungläubig sind: Wenn sie abstehen, dann wird ihnen das Vergangene verziehen; kehren sie aber zurück, dann, wahrlich, ist das Beispiel der Früheren schon dagewesen.

你向不信的人们说: 如果他们停止 (战争), 安拉将饶恕他们已往的 (过失和恶行); 如果他们恢复 (战争), 那么, 从前人们的例子业已呈现在他们的面前, (他们必将受到那样的待遇)。

Italian

Di' a coloro che non credono che, se desisteranno, quello che è passato sarà loro perdonato, ma se vi ritorneranno, allora l'esempio di quel che accade alle altre genti è già davanti a loro.

Spanish

Diles a los incrédulos, si desisten, que lo pasado se les erdonará; pero si vuelven a ello, entonces, en verdad, tienen ante ellos el ejemplo de los pueblos que les precedieron.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

تو کافروں سے کہہ دے کہ اگر وہ باز آجائیں ‘ تو جو (قصور) ان سے پہلے ہو چکا ہے انہیں معاف کر دیا جائے گا اور اگر وہ پھر (انہی کرتوتوں کی طرف) لوٹیں گے تو پہلے لوگوں کی (جو) سنت گزر چکی ہے (وہی) ان سے معاملہ ہوگا۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

Say to those who disbelieve, if they desist, that which is past will be forgiven them; and if they return to their misdeeds, then verily the example of the former peoples has already gone before them.

English - Five Volume Translation

Say to those who disbelieve, if they desist, that which is past will be forgiven them; and if they return thereto, then verily the example of the former peoples has already gone before them.[1127]

Commentary:

After the Battle of Badr, in which the opponents of Islam suffered a crushing defeat, they are once more invited to desist from fighting, and it is promised to them that if they cease hostilities against Islam, their past offences will be forgiven them. But they are at the same time warned that if they return to war, they will meet the same fate which the former opponents of truth met. See also 8:20 above.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اے نبیؐ، ان کافروں سے کہو کہ اگر اب بھی باز آ جائیں تو جو کچھ پہلے ہو چکا ہے اس سے درگزر کر لیا جائے گا، لیکن اگر یہ اسی پچھلی روش کا اعادہ کریں گے تو گزشتہ قوموں کے ساتھ جو کچھ ہو چکا ہے وہ سب کو معلوم ہے

English - Sahih

Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them. But if they return [to hostility] - then the precedent of the former [rebellious] peoples has already taken place.

کافروں سے کہہ دو اگر وہ باز آجائيں تو جو کچھ گزر چکا وہ انہیں معاف کر دیا جائے گا اور اگر لوٹیں گے تو پہلے کافروں کے حق میں قانون نافذ ہو چکا ہے

You tell the unbelievers in case they desist whatever has happened will be forgiven them. If they persist, they should remember the fate of those who have gone before them.
