قَالَ ٱلْمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوْمِهِۦٓ إِنَّا لَنَرَىٰكَ فِى سَفَاهَةٍ وَإِنَّا لَنَظُنُّكَ مِنَ ٱلْكَٰذِبِينَ

The disbelieving chiefs of his people said, ‘We surely see thee lost in foolishness, and we surely think thee to be one of the liars.’

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اس کی قوم میں سے اُن سرداروں نے جنہوں نے کفر کیا تھا کہا ہم تو تجھے یقیناً ایک بڑی بیوقوفی میں مبتلا دیکھتے ہیں اور یقیناً ہم سمجھتے ہیں کہ تو ضرور جھوٹے لوگوں میں سے ہے۔

Les chefs mécréants de son peuple dirent : « Nous te voyons assurément perdu dans une grande stupidité, et Nous sommes convaincus que tu es du nombre des menteurs. »

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

(تب) اس کی قوم کے کفار سرداروں نے کہا (اے ہود)! ہم تجھ کو یقیناً بیوقوفی میں (مبتلا) پاتے ہیں اور ہم تجھے یقیناً جھوٹوں میں سے خیال کرتے ہیں۔

Commentary:

By ascribing folly to Hud, his people meant that he laboured under a misunderstanding as regards his mission. The word سفاھة (foolishness) is used to express almost the same idea as is expressed by the word ضلالة (error) used in 7:61 above. It appears from this verse that the enemies of Hud brought two charges against him viz. of being in error and of lying.

Commentary:

The Prophet Hud here refutes the charge of being in error by the same argument by which Noah refuted a similar charge (see 7:62 above). God, being the fountainhead of all wisdom, he who comes from Him, cannot be looked upon as foolish. The other charge is refuted in the next verse.
