They said, ‘O Moses, either throw thou first, or we shall be the first throwers.’

انہوں نے کہا اے موسیٰ! یا تو تُو (پہلے) پھینک یا ہم (پہلے) پھینکنے والے بنیں۔

انہوں نے کہا اے موسیٰ! کیا تو پہلے پھینکے گا یا ہم (پہلے) پھینکنے کی جرأت کریں۔

پھر اُنہوں نے موسیٰؑ سے کہا "تم پھینکتے ہو یا ہم پھینکیں؟"

They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]."

کہا اے موسیٰ یا تو تو ڈال یا ہم ڈالتے ہیں

(اس پر ان لوگوں نے جن کو موسیٰ کے مقابلہ کے لئے فرعون نے جمع کیا تھا) کہا کہ اے موسیٰ! یا تو (اپنی تدبیر) پھینک (یعنی ظاہر کر) یا ہم تجھ سے پہلے پھینکیں۔

Commentary:
The words of the verse show that the magicians had behaved respectfully towards Moses and it is this respectful attitude of theirs which, perhaps, was mainly instrumental in enabling them to see the truth and accept it.
