قُلۡ یٰۤاَہۡلَ الۡکِتٰبِ لِمَ تَصُدُّوۡنَ عَنۡ سَبِیۡلِ اللّٰہِ مَنۡ اٰمَنَ تَبۡغُوۡنَہَا عِوَجًا وَّاَنۡتُمۡ شُہَدَآءُ ۗ وَمَا اللّٰہُ بِغٰفِلٍ عَمَّا تَعۡمَلُوۡنَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Say, ‘O People of the Book! why hinder ye the believers from the path of Allah, seeking to make it crooked, while you are witnesses thereof ? And Allah is not unmindful of what you do.’

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

(اور) کہہ دے اے اہل کتاب! تم اسے جو ایمان لایا ہے اللہ کی راہ سے کیوں روکتے ہو یہ چاہتے ہوئے کہ اس (راہ) میں کجی پیدا کردو جبکہ تم (حقیقت پر) گواہ ہو اور اللہ اس سے غافل نہیں جو تم کرتے ہو۔

French

Dis : « Ô Gens du Livre ! Pourquoi empêchez-vous les croyants de suivre le chemin d’Allāh en cherchant à le rendre tortueux alors que vous en êtes témoins ? Et Allāh n’est pas inattentif à ce que vous faites. »

German

Sprich: "O Volk der Schrift, warum haltet ihr vom Wege Allahs denjenigen zurück, der glaubt; ihr sucht ihn krumm zu machen, während ihr doch selber Zeugen seid? Und Allah ist nicht achtlos eures Tuns.

你 (也) 说: “有经的人啊! 你们既是安拉之道的见证人, [a]为什么企图使它显现弯曲而阻挠信奉的人 (来接近)呢? 安拉对于你们的所作所为不是放任不管的。”

Di': «O Popolo del libro!Perché sviate i credenti dal cammino di Allah, cercando di distorcerlo, mentre ne siete testimoni? Ma Allah non è indifferente a ciò che fate.»

Diles: “¡Oh, Pueblo del Libro! ¿por qué desviáis a los creyentes del camino de Al-lah, intentando hacerlo tortuoso, si sois sus testigos?. Pero Al-lah no está desatento a lo que hacéis.”

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

(نیز تو) کہہ (کہ) اے اہل کتاب! جو ایمان لاتا ہے اسے تم اللہ کے راستہ سے کیوں روکتے ہو۔ تم اس (راستہ) کو کجی اختیار کرتے ہوئے چاہتے ہو حالانکہ تم (اس پر) گواہ ہو اور جو کچھ تم کرتے ہو اللہ اس سے ہرگز غافل نہیں۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

Say, ‘O People of the Book! [b]why hinder ye the believers from the path of Allah, seeking to make it crooked,[446] while you are witnesses thereof? And Allah is not unmindful of what you do.’

7:46, 87; 8:48; 9:34; 14:4; 22:26.

The meaning is: 'You desire that there should appear crookedness in Islam;' or "you desire to pervert its tenets."

Say, ‘O People of the Book! [a]why hinder ye the believers from the path of Allah, seeking to make it crooked, while you are witnesses thereof ? And Allah is not unmindful of what you do.’[386]

Commentary:

The words تبغونھا عوجا (seeking to make it crooked) may also be translated as, you seek in it crookedness, i.e. you desire that there should appear crookedness in Islam; or you desire to turn the truths of this religion from their real import and to pervert its tenets.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

کہو، اے اہل کتاب! یہ تمہاری کیا روش ہے کہ جو اللہ کی بات مانتا ہے اُسے بھی تم اللہ کے راستہ سے روکتے ہو اور چاہتے ہو کہ وہ ٹیڑھی راہ چلے، حالانکہ تم خود (اس کے راہ راست ہونے پر) گواہ ہو تمہاری حرکتوں سے اللہ غافل نہیں ہے

English - Sahih

Say, "O People of the Scripture, why do you avert from the way of Allah those who believe, seeking to make it [seem] deviant, while you are witnesses [to the truth]? And Allah is not unaware of what you do."

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

کہہ دواے اہلِ کتاب الله کی راہ سے کیوں روکتے ہو اس شخص کو جو ایمان لائے اس میں عیب ڈھونڈتے ہو اورتم خود جانتے ہو اور تمہارے کام سے الله بے خبر نہیں ہے

English - Talal Itani

Say, "O People (of) the Book! Why (do) you hinder from (the) way (of) Allah (those) who believe[d], seeking (to make) it (seem) crooked while you (are) witnesses? And not Allah (is) unaware of what you do.

Say: 'People of the Book, why do you bar from God's way the believer, desiring to make it crooked, yourselves being witnesses? God is not heedless of the things you do.'

Say: 'People of the Book! Why do you hinder one who believes from the way of Allah, seeking that he follow a crooked way, even though you yourselves are witness to its being the right way?' Allah is not heedless of what you do.

Then say: "O people of the Book, why do you turn the believers away from the path of God, looking for obliquities in the way when you are witness to it? And God is aware of all that you do."

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور وہ لوگ جو اپنی بیویوں پر تہمت لگاتے ہیں اور ان کے پاس اپنی ذات کے سوا اور کوئی گواہ نہ ہوں تو ان میں سے ہر ایک کواللہ کی قسم کھاکر چار بار گواہی دینی ہوگی کہ یقیناً وہ سچوں میں سے ہے۔

French

Et quant à ceux qui calomnient leurs épouses, et qui n’ont de témoins qu’eux-mêmes – le témoignage d’un seul homme de ceux-làsuffira s’il témoigne quatre fois au nom d’Allāh, en disant qu’il est assurément de ceux qui disent la vérité.

Und jene, die ihre Gattinnen verleumden und keine Zeugen haben außer sich selber – die Aussage eines Mannes allein von solchen Leuten soll (genügen), wenn er viermal im Namen Allahs Zeugenschaft leistet, dass er zweifelsohne die Wahrheit redet;

اور جو لوگ اپنی بیویوں پر الزام لگاتے ہیں اور ان کے پاس سوائے اپنے وجود کے اور کوئی گواہ نہیں ہوتا تو ان میں سے ہر شخص کو ایسی گواہی دینی چاہیئے جو اللہ کی قسم کھا کر چار گواہیوں پر مشتمل ہو اور (ہر گواہی میں) وہ یہ کہے کہ وہ راست بازوں میں سے ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

And as for those who charge their wives with adultery[2030] and have no witnesses except themselves— the evidence of anyone of such people shall suffice if he bears witness four times in the name of Allah solemnly affirming that he is of those who speak the truth;

English - Five Volume Translation

And as for those who calumniate their wives, and have no witnesses except themselves—the evidence of any one of such people shall suffice if he bears witness four times in the name of Allah saying that he is surely of those who speak the truth.[2596]

Commentary:

As suspicion between husband and wife is likely to cast a severe strain on the whole family relations, a special regulation has been laid down in the verse under comment to meet such an unhappy situation if it ever happens to arise. If a husband accuses his wife of adultery he has to declare on oath four times that his allegation is true.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اور جو لوگ اپنی بیویوں پر الزام لگائیں اور ان کے پاس خود ان کے اپنے سوا دوسرے کوئی گواہ نہ ہوں تو اُن میں سے ایک شخص کی شہادت (یہ ہے کہ وہ) چار مرتبہ اللہ کی قسم کھا کر گواہی دے کہ وہ (اپنے الزام میں) سچا ہے

English - Sahih

And those who accuse their wives [of adultery] and have no witnesses except themselves - then the witness of one of them [shall be] four testimonies [swearing] by Allah that indeed, he is of the truthful.

او رجو لوگ اپنی بیویوں پر تہمت لگاتے ہیں اور ان کے لیے سوائے اپنے اورکوئی گواہ نہیں تو ایسے شخص کی گواہی کی یہ صورت ہے کہ چار مرتبہ الله کی قسم کھا کر گواہی دے کہ بے شک وہ سچا ہے
