وَقَالَ الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوۡا لَنۡ نُّؤۡمِنَ بِہٰذَا الۡقُرۡاٰنِ وَلَا بِالَّذِیۡ بَیۡنَ یَدَیۡہِ ۗ وَلَوۡ تَرٰۤی اِذِ الظّٰلِمُوۡنَ مَوۡقُوۡفُوۡنَ عِنۡدَ رَبِّہِمۡ یَرۡجِعُ بَعۡضُہُمۡ اِلٰی بَعۡضِۣ الۡقَوۡلَ یَقُوۡلُ الَّذِیۡنَ اسۡتُضۡعِفُوۡا لِلَّذِیۡنَ اسۡتَکۡبَرُوۡا لَوۡلَاۤ اَنۡتُمۡ لَکُنَّا مُؤۡمِنِیۡنَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And those who disbelieve say, ‘We will never believe in this Qur’an, nor in what is before it;’ and couldst thou see when the wrongdoers will be made to stand before their Lord, throwing back on one another the blame. Those who were considered weak will say to those who were proud, ‘Had it not been for you, we should surely have been believers.’

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور اُن لوگوں نے کہا جنہوں نے کفر کیا کہ ہم ہرگز اس قرآن پر ایمان نہیں لائیں گے اور نہ اُن (پیشگوئیوں) پر جو اُس کے سامنے ہیں۔ کاش تُو دیکھ سکتا کہ جب ظالم لوگ اپنے ربّ کے حضور ٹھہرائے گئے ہوں گے۔ اُن میں بعض بعض (دوسروں) کی طرف بات لَو ٹا رہے ہوں گے۔ جنہیں کمزور بنادیا گیا تھا وہ اُن سے کہیں گے جنہوں نے تکبر کیا کہ اگر تم نہ ہوتے تو ہم ضرور مومن ہو جاتے۔

French

Et ceux qui ne croient pas disent : « Nous ne croirons jamais à ce Coran, ni à ce qui a été révélé auparavant. » Si seulement tu pouvais voir lorsque les injustes seront mis debout en présence de leur Seigneur, se rejetant le blâme les uns sur les autres ! Ceux qui étaient rendus faibles diront à ceux qui étaient arrogants : « Sans vous, nous aurions assurément été croyants. »

Und jene, die ungläubig sind, sprechen: "Wir wollen keineswegs an diesen Qur-ân glauben, noch an das, was vor ihm ist." Und könntest du nur sehen, wenn die Frevler vor ihren Herrn gestellt werden, wie sie sich wechselseitig die Schuld zuwerfen! Diejenigen, die verachtet waren, werden dann zu denen, die hochmütig waren, sprechen: "Wäret ihr nicht gewesen, ganz gewiss wären wir Gläubige geworden."

E coloro che non credono dicono: «Non crederemo mai in questo Corano, né in quanto c'è stato prima di esso.» Potessi vedere quando i malvagi saranno fatti stare in piedi davanti al loro Signore, accusandosi l'un l'altro! Quelli che erano stati ritenuti deboli diranno a quelli che erano stati arroganti: «Non fosse stato per voi, certamente noi saremmo stati credenti.»

Y quienes no creen dicen: “Nunca creeremos en este Corán, ni en lo que existió antes de él”. Ojalá pudieras ver cuando se haga que los inicuos comparezcan ante su Señor, y se echen mutuamente la culpa. Los que eran considerados débiles dirán a los orgullosos: “De no haber sido por vosotros, ciertamente hubiésemos sido creyentes”.

اور کافر کہتے ہیں کہ ہم نہ تو اس قرآن کو مانتے ہیں اور نہ ان پیشگوئیوں کو جو اس کے متعلق کی گئی ہیں اور اگر تو ظالموں کو اس وقت دیکھے جب کہ وہ اپنے رب کے سامنے کھڑے کیے جائیں گے۔ اور ان میں سے بعض بعض سے بحث کر رہے ہوں گے اور کمزور طبقہ متکبر طبقہ سے کہہ رہا ہوگا کہ اگر تم نہ ہوتے تو ہم ضرور ایمان لے آتے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

And those who disbelieve say, ‘We will never believe in this Qur’an nor in what is before it.’ Couldst thou but see [c]when the wrongdoers will be made to stand before their Lord, casting the blame on one another? Those who were deemed weak will say to those who were arrogant, ‘Had it not been for you, we should, surely, have been believers.’[2397]

Commentary:

The expression بین یدیه literally meaning "between his two hands" is used in the sense of "before him or it." It has been used in this sense in 5:47 and 46:22. But it is also used in the sense of "in his presence" as in v. 13. Sometimes, however, this expression refers to a thing which is yet to come. In this sense the expression الذی بین یدیه may mean "the revelation which is yet to come."

It is human nature that when a guilty person is face to face with the punishment of his guilt, he tries to excuse himself by seeking to shift the responsibility for his misdeeds to another person. It is to this aspect of human nature that reference has been made in this and the next two verses. In these verses the deceivers and the deceived are shown as engaging in mutual recrimination when they see punishment overtaking them, seeking to throw the responsibility of their disbelief one upon another.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

یہ کافر کہتے ہیں کہ "ہم ہرگز اِس قرآن کو نہ مانیں گے اور نہ اس سے پہلے آئی ہوئی کسی کتاب کو تسلیم کریں گے" کاش تم دیکھو اِن کا حال اُس وقت جب یہ ظالم اپنے رب کے حضور کھڑے ہوں گے اُس وقت یہ ایک دوسرے پر الزام دھریں گے جو لوگ دنیا میں دبا کر رکھے گئے تھے وہ بڑے بننے والوں سے کہیں گے کہ "اگر تم نہ ہوتے تو ہم مومن ہوتے"

English - Sahih

And those who disbelieve say, "We will never believe in this Qur'an nor in that before it." But if you could see when the wrongdoers are made to stand before their Lord, refuting each other's words... Those who were oppressed will say to those who were arrogant, "If not for you, we would have been believers."

اور کافر کہتے ہیں ہم اس قرآن پر ہرگز ایمان نہیں لائیں گے اور نہ اس پر جو اس سے پہلے موجود ہے اورکاش آپ دیکھتے جب کہ ظالم اپنے رب کے حضور میں کھڑے کیے جائیں گے ایک ان میں سے دوسرے کی بات کو رد کر رہا ہوگا جو لوگ کمزور سمجھے جاتے تھے وہ ان سے کہیں گے جو بڑے بنتے تھے اگر تم نہ ہوتے تو ہم ایمان دار ہوتے

And say those who disbelieve, "Never will we believe in this Quran and not in (that) which (was) before it." But if you (could) see when the wrongdoers will be made to stand before their Lord, will throw back some of them to others the word. English - Arberry

The unbelievers say, 'We will not believe in this Koran, nor in that before it.' Ah, if thou couldst see when the evildoers are stationed before their Lord, bandying argument the one against the other! Those that were abased will say to those that waxed proud, 'Had it not been for you, we would have been believers.

English - Maududi

The unbelievers say: “We shall never believe in this Qur'an, nor in any Scripture before it.” If you could only see the wrong-doers arrayed before their Lord, each bandying charges against the other. Those who were suppressed will say to those who waxed arrogant: “Had it not been for you, we would have been believers.”

The unbelievers say: "We do not believe in this Qur'an, nor in what was (sent) before it." If only you could see the sinners when they are made to stand before their Lord, blaming one another!
