۞ شَرَعَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلدِّينِ مَا وَصَّىٰ بِهِۦ نُوحًا وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ وَمَا وَصَّيْنَا بِهِۦٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ وَعِيسَىٰٓ ۖ أَنْ أَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلدِّينَ وَلَا تَتَفَرَّقُوا۟ فِيهِ ۚ كَبُرَ عَلَى ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ مَا تَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَيْهِ ۚ ٱللَّهُ يَجْتَبِىٓ إِلَيْهِ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِىٓ إِلَيْهِ مَن يُنِيبُ
English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
He has prescribed for you the religion which He enjoined on Noah, and which We have revealed to thee, and which We enjoined on Abraham and Moses and Jesus, saying, ‘Remain steadfast in obedience, and be not divided therein. Hard upon the idolaters is that to which thou callest them. Allah chooses for Himself whom He pleases, and guides to Himself him who turns to Him.’

اُس نے تمہارے لئے دین میں سے وہی احکام جاری کئے ہیں جن کا اس نے نوح کو بھی تاکیدی حکم دیا تھا۔ اور جو ہم نے تیری طرف وحی کیا ہے اور جس کا ہم نے ابراہیم اور موسیٰ اور عیسیٰ کو بھی تاکیدی حکم دیا تھا، وہ یہی تھا کہ تم دین کو مضبوطی سے قائم کرو اور اس بارہ میں کوئی اختلاف نہ کرو۔ بہت بھاری ہے مشرکوں پر وہ بات جس کی طرف تُو اُنہیں بلاتا ہے۔ اللہ جسے چاہتا ہے اپنے لئے چُن لیتا ہے اور اپنی طرف اُسے ہدایت دیتا ہے جو (اس کی طرف) جُھکتا ہے ۔
French
Il vous a prescrit la religion qu’Il a enjointe à Noé, et que Nous t’avons révélée, et que Nous avons enjointe à Abraham, et à Moïse, et à Jésus en disant : « Etablissez fermement la religion, et n’y soyez pas désunis. C’est dur pour les idolâtres, ce à quoi tu les appelles. Allāh choisit pour Lui-Même qui Il veut, et Il guide vers Lui-Même celui qui se tourne vers Lui.
German
Er verordnete für euch eine Glaubenslehre, die Er Noah anbefahl und die Wir dir offenbart haben und die Wir Abraham und Moses und Jesus auf die Seele banden: Nämlich, bleibet standhaft im Gehorsam, und seid nicht gespalten darin. Hart ist für die Heiden das, wozu du sie aufrufst. Allah wählt dazu aus, wen Er will, und leitet dazu den, wer sich bekehrt.

他为你们所规定的宗教, (基本上) 就是他命令努哈的、他所启示你的、他所嘱咐伊布拉欣、穆撒和伊撒的宗教, 即建立 (对安拉的) 服从, 在这个 (宗教) 中不要 (在大地上) 分裂 (成互相敌对 的宗派)。多神教信徒对于你所呼唤他们的感到难堪。安拉为自己选择他所意欲的, 领导归向他的人到他那里去。

Egli ha prescritto per voi la religione che ha imposto a Noè, e che Noi ora abbiamo rivelato a te, e che abbiamo imposto ad Abramo e a Mosè e a Gesù, dicendo: «Siate saldi nell'obbedienza ad Allah, e non ci siano divisioni al riguardo. È duro per gli idolatri ciò a cui tu li chiami. Allah Si sceglie chi vuole e guida a Sé chi a Lui si volge.»

Él os ha prescrito la religión que impuso a Noé, y que te hemos revelado, y que impusimos a Abraham, Moisés y Jesús, diciendo: “Permaneced perseverantes en la obediencia y no os dividáis en ella. Es duro para los idólatras aquello a lo que les exhortáis. Al-lah elige ara Él a quien le agrada y guía hacia Sí mismo a quien vuelve a Él”.

اس (اللہ) نے تجھ کو (اصولی طور پر) وہی دین دیا ہے جس کی تاکید اس نے نوح کو کی تھی اور جو ہم نے اب تجھ پر (قرآن کے ذریعہ سے) اتارا ہے اور جس کی تا کید ہم نے ابراہیم اور موسیٰ اور عیسیٰ کو کی تھی اور وہ یہ تھا کہ (اللہ کی) اطاعت کو دنیا میں قائم کرو‘ اور اس (دین) کے بارہ میں اختلاف کبھی نہ کیا کرو۔ مشرکوں پر وہ (تعلیم بڑی) گراں گذرتی ہے جس کی طرف تو ان کو بلاتا ہے حالانکہ اللہ کی نظر میں جو پسندیدہ ہوتا ہے وہ اسے اس (دین) کے لئے چن لیتا ہے اور یہ تعلیم اسی کو ملتی ہے جو خدا کی طرف ہمیشہ جھکا رہتا ہے۔

He has prescribed for you the religion which He enjoined on Noah, and which We have now revealed to thee, and which We enjoined on Abraham and Moses and Jesus, viz. ‘Establish obedience to Allah in the earth, and be not divided therein. Commentary:
It is worthy of special note that while for great Prophets such as Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus the expression وصی (He has prescribed) has been used, for the Holy Prophet a different expression, viz. أوحینا (We have revealed) has been used which shows that though other Prophets also received Divine revelation, yet the most Perfect and Complete revelation —the revelation par excellence—was given to the Holy Prophet.

اُس نے تمہارے لیے دین کا وہی طریقہ مقرر کیا ہے جس کا حکم اُس نے نوحؑ کو دیا تھا، اور جسے (اے محمدؐ) اب تمہاری طرف ہم نے وحی کے ذریعہ سے بھیجا ہے، اور جس کی ہدایت ہم ابراہیمؑ اور موسیٰؑ اور عیسیٰؑ کو دے چکے ہیں، اِس تاکید کے ساتھ کہ قائم کرو اِس دین کو اور اُس میں متفرق نہ ہو جاؤ یہی بات اِن مشرکین کو سخت ناگوار ہوئی ہے جس کی طرف اے محمدؐ تم انہیں دعوت دے رہے ہو اللہ جسے چاہتا ہے اپنا کر لیتا ہے، اور وہ اپنی طرف آنے کا راستہ اُسی کو دکھاتا ہے جو اُس کی طرف رجوع کرے
English - Sahih
He has ordained for you of religion what He enjoined upon Noah and that which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus - to establish the religion and not be divided therein. Difficult for those who associate others with Allah is that to which you invite them. Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back [to Him].

He has ordained for you of the religion what He enjoined upon Nuh, and that which We have revealed to you, and what We enjoined upon Ibrahim and Musa and Isa. To establish the religion and not be divided therein. Is difficult on the polytheists what you call them to it. Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills, and guides to Himself whoever turns.

English - Arberry
He has laid down for you as religion that He charged Noah with, and that We have revealed to thee, and that We charged Abraham with, Moses and Jesus: 'Perform the religion, and scatter not regarding it. Very hateful is that for the idolaters, that thou callest them to. God chooses unto Himself whomsoever He will, and He guides to Himself whosoever turns, penitent.

He has prescribed for you the religion which He enjoined upon Noah and which We revealed to you (O Muhammad), and which We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus, commanding: “Establish this religion and do not split up regarding it.” What you are calling to is very hard upon those who associate others with Allah in His Divinity. Allah chooses for Himself whomsoever He pleases and guides to Himself whoever penitently turns to Him.

وَمَا تَفَرَّقُوٓا۟ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْعِلْمُ بَغْيًۢا بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِن رَّبِّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى لَّقُضِىَ بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أُورِثُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ لَفِى شَكٍّ مِّنْهُ مُرِيبٍ

And they did not become divided but after knowledge had come to them, through jealousy among themselves. And had it not been for a word that had already gone forth from thy Lord for an appointed term, the matter would surely have been decided between them. And surely those who were made to inherit the Book after them are in a disquieting doubt concerning it.

اور اُنہوں نے تفرقہ نہیں کیا مگر ایک دوسرے کے خلاف بغاوت کرتے ہوئے بعد اِس کے کہ اُن کے پاس علم آ چکا تھا اور اگر تیرے ربّ کا یہ فرمان معین مدت تک کے لئے جاری نہ ہو چکا ہوتا تو ضرور اُن کے درمیان فیصلہ چکا دیا جاتا اور یقیناً وہ لوگ جنہیں اُن کے بعد کتاب کا وارث بنایا گیا اس کے متعلق ایک بے چین کردینے والے شک میں پڑے ہوئے ہیں۔

Et ils n’ont différé entre eux et ils ne se sont divisés qu’après que la connaissance leur fût venue, par suite de rivalité entre eux. Et n’eût été une parole qui avait déjà émané de ton Seigneur pour un terme déterminé, l’affaire aurait été assurément décidée entre eux. Et assurément ceux qui ont été faits héritiers du Livre après eux, sont dans une incertitude inquiétante à son sujet.

Und sie zerfielen erst dann in Spaltung, nachdem das Wissen zu ihnen gekommen war, aus selbstsüchtigem Neid untereinander. Y sólo quedaron divididos y discreparon después de llegarles el conocimiento, por envidia mutua. Mas de no haber sido por una palabra ue había sido ya revelada por tu Señor para un plazo fijado, el asunto se habría decidido ciertamente entre ellos. Pues en verdad, quienes se hizo heredar el Libro después de ellos, se encuentran en una duda inquietante respecto al mismo.

اور کفار نے دین کے معاملہ میں اختلاف نہیں کیا مگر اس کے بعد کہ ان کے پاس ایک کامل علم (یعنی قرآن) آگیا اور یہ اختلاف انہوں نے (کسی عقلی دلیل کی وجہ سے نہیں کیا بلکہ) باہمی بغض و حسد کی وجہ سے کیا ہے اور اگر تیرے رب کی طرف سے ایک مدت مقررہ تک کے لئے ایک بات کا فیصلہ[1] نہ ہو چکا ہوتا تو ان کفار کی تباہی کبھی کی ہو چکی ہوتی اور وہ لوگ جن کو ان (پہلے لوگوں) کے بعد کتاب کا وارث کیا گیا ہے وہ اس کتاب کی وجہ سے ایک ایسے شک میں مبتلا ہیں جو ان کے دلوں میں قلق پیدا کر رہا ہے۔
مطلب یہ ہے کہ مختلف کفار کے متعلق کئی پیشگوئیاں قرآن مجید اور احادیث میں بیان ہیں اگر ان کو ابھی تباہ کر دیا جائے تو اپنے اپنے وقت پر ان پیشگوئیوں کے پورا ہونے کا کوئی امکان باقی نہیں رہتا۔ پس یہ دیر قرآن اور حدیث کے سچا کرنے کے لئے ہے نہ کہ ان لوگوں کے کسی حق کی وجہ سے۔

Commentary:
While the pronoun "they" in the expression "and they did not become divided" refers to the followers of the Prophets mentioned in the previous verse, the reference in the words, "those who were made to inherit the Book after them," is either to those followers of the above-mentioned Prophets who inherited the Book after those Prophets had passed away or to the people in the time of the Holy Prophet who became heirs to Divine revelation after the followers of the Israelite Prophets had defied and disobeyed the Divine Message.

لوگوں میں جو تفرقہ رو نما ہوا وہ اِس کے بعد ہوا کہ اُن کے پاس علم آ چکا تھا، اور اس بنا پر ہوا کہ وہ آپس میں ایک دوسرے پر زیادتی کرنا چاہتے تھے اگر تیرا رب پہلے ہی یہ نہ فرما چکا ہوتا کہ ایک وقت مقرر تک فیصلہ ملتوی رکھا جائے گا تو ان کا قضیہ چکا دیا گیا ہوتا اور حقیقت یہ ہے کہ اگلوں کے بعد جو لوگ کتاب کے وارث بنائے گئے وہ اُس کی طرف سے بڑے اضطراب انگیز شک میں پڑے ہوئے ہیں

And they did not become divided until after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord [postponing the penalty] until a specified time, it would have been concluded between them. And indeed, those who were granted inheritance of the Scripture after them are, concerning it, in disquieting doubt.

اور اہلِ کتاب جوجدا جدا فرقے ہوئے تو علم آنے کے بعد اپنی باہمی ضد سے ہوئے اور اگر تیرے رب کی طرف سے ایک وقت مقرر (قیامت) تک کا وعدہ نہ ہوتا تو ان میں فیصلہ ہوگیا ہوتا اور جو ان کے بعد کتاب کے وارث بنائے گئے ہیں (زمانہِ نبوی کے اہل کتاب) وہ اس (دین) کی نسبت حیرت انگیز شک میں ہیں

مطلب یہ ہے کہ مختلف کفار کے متعلق کئی پیشگوئیاں قرآن مجید اور احادیث میں بیان ہیں اگر ان کو ابھی تباہ کر دیا جائے تو اپنے اپنے وقت پر ان پیشگوئیوں کے پورا ہونے کا کوئی امکان باقی نہیں رہتا۔ پس یہ دیر قرآن اور حدیث کے سچا کرنے کے لئے ہے نہ کہ ان لوگوں کے کسی حق کی وجہ سے۔

They scattered not, save after knowledge had come to them, being insolent one to another; and but for a Word that preceded from thy Lord until a stated term, it had been decided between them. But those to whom the Book has been given as an inheritance after them, behold, they are in doubt of it disquieting.

They did not split up except after knowledge had come to them, and then only because they wished to commit excesses against each other. Had your Lord not already decreed that judgement would be made later at an appointed time, the matter between them would surely have been decided once and for all. Indeed those who were later made the heirs of the Book are in disquieting doubt about it.

فَلِذَٰلِكَ فَٱدْعُ ۖ وَٱسْتَقِمْ كَمَآ أُمِرْتَ ۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعْ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۖ وَقُلْ ءَامَنتُ بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ مِن كِتَٰبٍ ۖ وَأُمِرْتُ لِأَعْدِلَ بَيْنَكُمُ ۖ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّكُمْ ۖ لَنَآ أَعْمَٰلُنَا وَلَكُمْ أَعْمَٰلُكُمْ ۖ لَا حُجَّةَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمُ ۖ ٱللَّهُ يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَنَا ۖ وَإِلَيْهِ ٱلْمَصِيرُ

To this, then, do thou invite mankind. And be thou steadfast as thou art commanded, and follow not their evil inclinations, but say, ‘I believe in whatever Book Allah has sent down, and I am commanded to judge justly between you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. For us is the reward of our works, and for you the reward of your works. There is no quarrel between us and you. Allah will gather us together, and to Him is the return.’

پس اِسی بنا پر چاہئے کہ تُو انہیں دعوت دے اور مضبوطی سے اپنے موقف پر قائم ہو جا جیسے تجھے حکم دیا جاتا ہے اور اُن کی خواہشات کی پیروی نہ کر اور کہہ دے کہ میں اس پر ایمان لا چکا ہوں جو کتاب ہی کی باتوں میں سے اللہ نے اُتارا ہے۔ اور مجھے حکم دیا گیا ہے کہ میں تمہارے درمیان انصاف کا معاملہ کروں۔ اللہ ہی ہمارا ربّ اور تمہارا بھی ربّ ہے۔ ہمارے لئے ہمارے اعمال اور تمہارے لئے تمہارے اعمال ہیں ۔ ہمارے اور تمہارے درمیان کوئی جھگڑا (کام) نہیں (آسکتا)۔ اللہ ہمیں اکٹھا کرے گا اور اُسی کی طرف لوٹ کر جانا ہے۔
French
Vers ceci donc, appelle l’humanité. Et sois constant comme il t’est ordonné, et ne suis pas leurs mauvais penchants, mais dis : « Je crois en tout Livre révélé par Allāh, et il m’est ordonné de juger équitablement entre vous. Allāh est notre Seigneur et votre Seigneur. Pour nous sera la récompense de nos œuvres, et pour vous la récompense de vos œuvres. Il n’y a aucune querelle entre nous et vous. Allāh nous rassemblera, et auprès de Lui est la destination. »

Zu diesem (Glauben) also rufe (sie) auf. Ante esto, pues, invita tú a la humanidad. Sé perseverante como se te ha ordenado, y no sigas sus perversas inclinaciones, sino diles: “Creo en cualquier Libro revelado por Al-lah y se me ha ordenado juzgar con justicia entre vosotros. Al-lah es nuestro Señor y vuestro Señor. Para nosotros es la recompensa de nuestras obras y para vosotros la recompensa de las vuestras. No hay disputa alguna entre nosotros y vosotros. Al-lah nos reunirá juntos y a Él será el retorno”.

The Holy Prophet is here enjoined to tell the followers of earlier Prophets that he believes in all the revealed Scriptures that had come before him. There was, therefore, no cause for them to quarrel with him. But since they continued to reject him, so time will show who is in the right and who in the wrong. The words, "Allah will gather us together" may imply a prophecy that disbelievers will join the fold of Islam.

So to that [religion of Allah] invite, [O Muhammad], and remain on a right course as you are commanded and do not follow their inclinations but say, "I have believed in what Allah has revealed of the Qur'an, and I have been commanded to do justice among you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. For us are our deeds, and for you your deeds. There is no [need for] argument between us and you. Allah will bring us together, and to Him is the [final] destination."

So to that then invite, and stand firm as you are commanded and (do) not follow their desires, but say, "I believe in what Allah has sent down of (the) Book, and I am commanded that I do justice between you.
