English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
And when they hear vain talk, they turn away from it and say, ‘Unto us our works and unto you your works. Peace be to you. We seek not the ignorant.’

اور جب وہ کسی لغو بات کو سنتے ہیں تو اس سے اعراض کرتے ہیں اور کہتے ہیں کہ ہمارے لئے ہمارے اعمال ہیں اور تمہارے لئے تمہارے اعمال۔ تم پر سلام ہو۔ ہم جاہلوں کی طرف رغبت نہیں رکھتے۔

Et lorsqu’ils entendent de vains propos, ils s’en détournent et disent : « A nous, nos œuvres, et à vous, les vôtres. La paix soit avec vous. Nous ne recherchons pas le contact avec les ignorants. »

Und wenn sie eitles Gerede hören, so wenden sie sich davon ab und sprechen: "Für uns unsere Werke und für euch eure Werke. Friede sei mit euch! Wir suchen nicht die Unwissenden."

Cuando escuchan palabras vanas, se apartan de ellas y dicen: “Para nosotros nuestras obras y para vosotros las vuestras. La paz sea con vosotros. No buscamos a los ignorantes”.
اردو تفسیرِ صغیر
اور (یہودیوں میں سے مسلمان ہونے والے جب) کوئی لغو[4] بات سنتے ہیں تو اُس سے اعراض کرتے ہیں اور کہتے ہیں اے کافرو ہمارے عمل ہمارے لئے ہیں اور تمہارے عمل تمہارے لئے ہیں۔ تم پر سلامتی نازل ہو (یعنی خدا تمہیں ایمان نصیب کرے) ہم جاہلوں سے تعلق رکھنا پسند نہیں کرتے۔
یعنی مشرکین وغیرہ سے جب خدائی باتوں کے متعلق ہنسی ٹھٹھے کی بات سنتے ہیں۔

Commentary:
The purport of the verse seems to be that when the vast and orderly universe, of which the earth forms but a small part, and the planets and satellites of which the universe is composed have been created for the service of man, it is inconceivable that man for whom everything was brought into existence, should have been created without a purpose. His life has a grim purpose and a great mission. He has been created to develop and manifest in himself, on human scale, Divine attributes in order to prove himself to be God’s vicegerent on earth. To help him to achieve this supreme and noble object, God sent His Messengers. These Divine Messengers came to all peoples in different periods of time. Invariably they were rejected by their peoples and the rejecters met with a sad fate. The Holy Prophet is asked to warn his own people that if they rejected and opposed him, they, too, will meet with no better fate. The verse under comment cites the examples of ‘Ad and Thamud who by rejecting their Prophets incurred God’s displeasure and punishment.

اب اگر یہ لوگ منہ موڑتے ہیں تو اِن سے کہہ دو کہ میں تم کو اُسی طرح کے ایک اچانک ٹوٹ پڑنے والے عذاب سے ڈراتا ہوں جیسا عاد اور ثمود پر نازل ہوا تھا

Commentary:

Et en vérité lorsque Nous faisons goûter à l’homme une miséricorde de Notre part, il s’en réjouit. Mais si un malheur leur survient par suite de ce que leurs mains ont envoyé en avant, alors voilà que l’homme est très ingrat !

Kehren sie sich jedoch ab, so haben Wir dich nicht als Wächter über sie entsandt. Deine Pflicht ist nur die Verkündigung. Wenn Wir dem Menschen Unsere Barmherzigkeit zu kosten geben, so freut er sich über sie. Ma se voltano le spalle, Noi non ti abbiamo mandato come loro custode. Tuo dovere è solo quello di comunicare il messaggio. E certamente, quando facciamo gustare agli uomini la Nostra misericordia, ne gioiscono. Ma se li colpisce qualche male per quello che le loro stesse mani hanno mandato avanti, allora, ecco, l'uomo diventa ingrato.

Mas si se apartan, no te hemos enviado como guardián de ellos. Tu deber es únicamente el de transmitir el Mensaje. En verdad cuanto, cuando hacemos que el hombre pruebe Nuestra misericordia, se alegra con ella. Pero si les sobreviene el mal por lo que cometieron sus manos ¡he ahí como el hombre se vuelve desagradecido!

پھر بھی اگر وہ اعراض کریں تو (کرتے رہیں) ہم نے تجھے ان پر نگران بنا کر نہیں بھیجا۔ تجھ پر صرف بات کا پہنچا دینا فرض ہے اور جب کبھی ہم انسان کو اپنی طرف سے رحمت پہنچاتے ہیں تو وہ اس پر خوش ہو جاتا ہے اور اگر اس کے کسی عمل کی وجہ سے (ہماری طرف سے) اس کو کوئی تکلیف پہنچے تو انسان ناشکر گذار بن جاتا ہے (اور پہلے تمام فضلوں کا انکار کر دیتا ہے)

But if they turn away - then We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], over them as a guardian; upon you is only [the duty of] notification. And indeed, when We let man taste mercy from us, he rejoices in it; but if evil afflicts him for what his hands have put forth, then indeed, man is ungrateful.
