[1] غَنِمَ , (S, Msb, K,) aor. غَنَمَ , (Msb,) inf. n. غُنْمٌ (S, MA, Msb, * K, KL) and غَنْمٌ, (K,) or, as some say, the former is a simple subst. and the latter is an inf. n., (TA,) and غَنَمٌ and غَنِيمَةٌ and غُنْمَانٌ, (K,) He, or they, (i. e. a man, Msb, or a party of men, S,) obtained, got, or took, (Msb, K, * TK,) spoil, (K, * TK,) or a thing [as spoil]. (Msb, TA.) [And He acquired, or gained, a thing without difficulty, or trouble, or inconvenience: or in this sense the inf. n. is غُنْمٌ, which see below, voce غَنِيمَةٌ.] مَا غَنِمْتُمْ in the Kur viii. 42 means What ye take by force [in war] from the unbelievers. (Bd, Jel.) [See also 8.]

وَعَلَی الَّذِیۡنَ ہَادُوۡا حَرَّمۡنَا کُلَّ ذِیۡ ظُفُرٍ ۖ وَّمِنَ الۡبَقَرِ وَالۡغَنَمِ حَرَّمۡنَا عَلَیۡہِمۡ شُحُوۡمَہُمَاۤ اِلَّا مَا حَمَلَتۡ ظُہُوۡرُہُمَاۤ اَوِ الۡحَوَایَاۤ اَوۡ مَا اخۡتَلَطَ بِعَظۡمٍ ۚ ذٰلِکَ جَزَیۡنٰہُمۡ بِبَغۡیِہِمۡ ۖ وَاِنَّا لَصٰدِقُوۡنَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And to those who are Jews We forbade all animals having claws; and of the oxen and the sheep and goats did We forbid them their fats, save that which their backs bear or the intestines, or that which is mixed with a bone. That is the reward We gave them for their rebellion. And most surely We are truthful.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اُن لوگوں پر جو یہودی ہوئے ہم نے ہر ناخن والا جانور حرام کر دیا تھا اور گائیوں میں سے اور بھیڑ بکریوں میں سے ان کی چربیاں ان پر حرام کر دی تھیں سوائے اس کے جو اُن کی ریڑھ کی ہڈی پر چڑھی ہوئی ہو یا انتڑیوں کے ساتھ لگی ہو یا ہڈی کے ساتھ ملی جلی ہو۔ ہم نے انہیں ان کی بغاوت کی یہ جزا دی اور ہم یقیناً سچے ہیں۔

French

Et à ceux qui sont Juifs, Nous avons interdit tous les animaux qui ont des griffes ; et des bœufs, des moutons et des chèvres, Nous leur avons interdit le gras, sauf celui que portent leurs dos ou leurs entrailles, ou ce qui est attaché aux os. C’est là la rétribution que Nous leur avons accordée pour leur rébellion. Et assurément, Nous sommes véridique.

Und denen, die Juden sind, haben Wir alles Getier untersagt, das Klauen hat; und vom Rindvieh und den Schafen und Ziegen haben Wir ihnen das Fett verboten, ausgenommen das, was an ihren Rücken sitzt oder in den Eingeweiden oder am Knochen haftet. Das ist der Lohn, den Wir ihnen für ihre Abtrünnigkeit gaben. Und siehe, Wir sind wahrhaft.

Italian

E a coloro che sono ebrei Noi proibimmo tutti gli animali con artigli, e il grasso dei bovini e delle pecore e delle capre, ad eccezione di quello dei loro lombi, o dei loro intestini, o di quello attaccato alle ossa. Questa è la ricompensa che abbiamo dato loro per la loro ribellione. E certamente Noi siamo veraci.

Spanish

En cuanto a los judíos, les prohibimos todos los animales con garra; y de los bovinos, ovinos y caprinos, les prohibimos sus grasas, salvo las que tienen sus lomos, los intestinos o lo que está mezclado con el hueso. Ésa es la recompensa que les dimos por su rebelión. Pues en verdad somos veraces.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور جو لوگ یہودی ہیں ہم نے ان پر ہر اک ناخن[2] والا جانور حرام کر دیا تھا۔ اور گائے (بیل) اور بھیڑ (بکری) میں سے ہم نے ان پر ان دونوں کی چربیاں باستثنا اس (چربی) کے جو ان کی پیٹھوں یا انتڑیوں پر ہو یا جو ہڈی سے ملی ہوئی ہو حرام[3] کر دی تھیں‘ یہ ہم نے انہیں ان کی نافرمانی کی وجہ سے سزا دی تھی اور ہم یقیناً سچے ہیں۔

یعنی شکاری جانور۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

And [a]to those who are Jews We forbade all animals having claws; and of the oxen and the sheep and goats did We forbid them their fats, save that which their backs bear or the entrails or that which is mixed with the bones.[925] With that did we recompense them for their rebellion.[926] And most surely We are truthful.

16:119.

Commentary:

The reader is referred to the Bible (Lev. 3:17) where it is said, "Ye eat neither fat nor blood." Again, in Lev. 7:23 it is said "Ye shall eat no manner of fat of ox or of sheep or of goat." In the Talmud, exception is made of the fat that sticks to the ribs. Similarly, the Jews regard as lawful any fat that cannot be separated from the intestines and the flesh (Enc. Bib., cols. 1544-45). This corroborates the Quran which says, and of the oxen and the sheep and goats did We forbid them their fats, save that which their backs bear or the intestines, or that which is mixed with a bone.

It is declared in the previous verse that the only things forbidden in Islam are (1) carrion, (2) blood poured forth, (3) flesh of swine, and (4) the slaughtered animal on which the name of anyone other than God is pronounced. The Jews might, however, say that there are other things beside the above which are also forbidden them by God. The Quran, therefore, adds that it is true that there are other foods which are forbidden to Jews, but they have not been included in the prohibited things here enumerated; for, these things had been forbidden them not because they were unclean but as a punishment for their transgression. So the declaration of the previous verse still remains true.

اور جن لوگوں نے یہودیت اختیار کی ان پر ہم نے سب ناخن والے جانور حرام کر دیے تھے، اور گائے اور بکری کی چربی بھی بجز اُس کے جو اُن کی پیٹھ یا اُن کی آنتوں سے لگی ہوئی ہو یا ہڈی سے لگی رہ جائے یہ ہم نے ان کی سرکشی کی سزا اُنہیں دی تھی اور یہ جو کچھ ہم کہہ رہے ہیں بالکل سچ کہہ رہے ہیں

English - Sahih

And to those who are Jews We prohibited every animal of uncloven hoof; and of the cattle and the sheep We prohibited to them their fat, except what adheres to their backs or the entrails or what is joined with bone. [By] that We repaid them for their injustice. And indeed, We are truthful.

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

یہود پرہم نے ایک ناخن والا جانور حرام کیا تھا اور گائے اوربکری میں سے ان دونوں کی چربی حرا م کی تھی مگر جو پشت پر یا انتڑیوں پر لگی ہوئی ہو یا جو ہڈی سے ملی ہوئی ہو ہم نے ان کی شرارت کے باعث انہیں یہ سزا دی تھی اور بے شک ہم سچے ہیں

And to those of Jewry We have forbidden every beast with claws; and of oxen and sheep We have forbidden them the fat of them, save what their backs carry, or their entrails, or what is mingled with bone; that We recompensed them for their insolence; surely We speak truly.
