English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
Call them by the names of their fathers. That is more equitable in the sight of Allah. But if you know not their fathers, then they are your brothers in faith and your friends. And there is no blame on you in any mistake you may unintentionally make in this matter, but what matters is that which your hearts intend. And Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful.
اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ
ان کو ان کے آباءکے نام سے یاد کیا کرو۔ یہ اللہ کے نزدیک انصاف کے زیادہ قریب ہے۔ اور اگر تم ان کے آباءکو نہ جانتے ہو تو پھر وہ دینی معاملات میں تمہارے بھائی اور تمہارے دوست ہیں۔ اور اس معاملہ میں جو تم غلطی کر چکے ہو اس کا تم پر کوئی گناہ نہیں۔ ہاں مگر وہ (گناہ ہے) جو تمہارے دلوں نے باِلارادہ کمایا اور اللہ بہت بخشنے والا (اور) بار بار رحم کرنے والا ہے۔
French
Appelez-les du nom de leur père. Cela est plus équitable aux yeux d’Allāh. Mais si vous ne connaissez pas leur père, alors ils sont vos frères dans la foi, et vos amis. Et il n’y a aucun péché de votre part si vous avez fait une erreur quelconque à cet égard, excepté ce que vos cœurs ont fait intentionnellement. Et Allāh est Très-Pardonnant, Miséricordieux.

Nennt sie nach ihren Vätern. Das ist billiger vor Allah. Wenn ihr jedoch ihre Väter nicht kennt, so sind sie eure Brüder im Glauben und eure Freunde. Und was ihr versehentlich darin gefehlt habt, das ist euch keine Sünde, sondern nur das, was eure Herzen vorsätzlich tun. Und Allah ist allverzeihend, barmherzig.

Chiamateli secondo il nome dei loro padri. Ciò è più giusto agli occhi di Allah. Ma se non ne conoscete i padri, allora sono vostri fratelli nella fede e vostri amici. E non vi si imputerà errore per quello che avete fatto involontariamente, ma solo quanto i vostri cuori hanno intenzionalmente perseguito. E Allah è Colui che sommamente perdona, il Misericordioso.

Llamadles por los nombres de sus padres. Esto es más equitativo a la vista de Al‑lah. Pero si no conocéis a sus padres, ellos son vuestros hermanos en la fe y vuestros amigos. No se os puede chacar nada por cualquier error sin intención que cometáis en este asunto, salvo lo que vuestros corazones deliberadamente desearon. Pues Al‑lah es el Sumo Indulgente, Misericordioso.

(چاہیے کہ) ان (لے پالکوں) کو ان کے باپوں کا بیٹا کہہ کر پکارو۔ یہ اللہ کے نزدیک زیادہ منصفانہ فعل ہے اور اگر تم کو معلوم نہ ہو کہ ان کے باپ کون ہیں تو (بہرحال) وہ تمہارے دینی بھائی ہیں اور دینی دوست ہیں اور جو تم غلطی سے پہلے کر چکے ہو اس کے متعلق تم پر کوئی گناہ نہیں‘ لیکن جس بات پر تمہارے دل پختہ ارادہ کر بیٹھے ہوں (وہ قابل سزا ہے) اور اللہ (ہرتوبہ کرنے والے کے لئے) بہت بخشنے والا (اور) باربار رحم کرنے والا ہے۔

Call them after their fathers. That is more equitable in the sight of Allah. But if you know not their fathers, then they are your brothers in Faith and your friends. And there is no blame on you in respect of any mistake you may unintentionally make in this matter; but you will be called to account for that which your hearts purpose. Call them by [the names of] their fathers; it is more just in the sight of Allah. But if you do not know their fathers - then they are [still] your brothers in religion and those entrusted to you. And there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred but [only for] what your hearts intended. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.

Call them after their true fathers; that is more equitable in the sight of God. If you know not who their fathers were, then they are your brothers in religion, and your clients. There is no fault in you if you make mistakes, but only in what your hearts premeditate. God is All-forgiving, All-compassionate.

Call your adopted sons after their true fathers; that is more equitable in the sight of Allah. But if you do not know their true fathers, then regard them as your brethren in faith and as allies. You will not be taken to task for your mistaken utterances, but you will be taken to task for what you say deliberately. Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Compassionate.

Thou wilt not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day loving those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even though they be their fathers, or their sons or their brethren, or their kindred. These are they in whose hearts Allah has inscribed true faith and whom He has strengthened with inspiration from Himself. And He will make them enter Gardens through which streams flow. Therein will they abide. Allah is well pleased with them, and they are well pleased with Him. They are Allah’s party. Hearken ye O people! it is Allah’s party who will be successful.

تو کوئی ایسے لوگ نہیں پائے گا جو اللہ اور یومِ آخرت پر ایمان رکھتے ہوئے ایسے لوگوں سے دوستی کریں جو اللہ اور اس کے رسول سے دشمنی کرتے ہوں، خواہ وہ اُن کے باپ دادا ہوں یا اُن کے بیٹے ہوں یا اُن کے بھائی ہوں یا اُن کے ہم قبیلہ لوگ ہوں۔ یہی وہ (باغیرت) لوگ ہیں جن کے دل میں اللہ نے ایمان لکھ رکھا ہے اور ان کی وہ اپنے امر سے تائید کرتا ہے اور وہ انہیں ایسی جنتوں میں داخل کرے گا جن کے دامن میں نہریں بہتی ہیں وہ اُن میں ہمیشہ رہتے چلے جائیں گے۔ اللہ اُن سے راضی ہوا اور وہ اللہ سے راضی ہوگئے۔ یہی اللہ کا گروہ ہیں۔ خبردار! اللہ ہی کا گروہ ہے جو کامیاب ہونے والے لوگ ہیں۔
French
Tu ne trouveras pas des gens qui croient en Allāh et au Jour Dernier éprouver de l'affection pour ceux qui s’opposent à Allāh et à Son Messager, même si c’était leur père, ou leurs fils ou leurs frères, ou les membres de leur tribu. Ce sont ceux-là dans le cœur de qui Allāh a inscrit la vraie foi, et qu’Il a fortifiés par une parole émanant de Lui. Et Il les fera entrer dans des Jardins sous lesquels coulent des ruisseaux. Ils y demeureront éternellement. Allāh est très content d’eux, et ils sont très contents de Lui. Ceux-là sont les partisans d’Allāh. Ecoutez bien, ô vous les gens ! ce sont les partisans d’Allāh qui réussiront.

Du wirst kein Volke finden, das an Allah und an den Jüngsten Tag glaubt, und dabei die liebt, die sich Allah und Seinem Gesandten widersetzen, selbst wenn es ihre Väter wären oder ihre Söhne oder ihre Brüder oder ihre Verwandten. Das sind die, in deren Herzen Allah den Glauben eingeschrieben hat und die Er gestärkt hat mit Seinem eigenen Wort. Er wird sie in Gärten führen, durch die Ströme fließen. Darin werden sie weilen ewiglich. Allah ist wohl zufrieden mit ihnen, und sie sind wohl zufrieden mit Ihm. Sie sind Allahs Partei. Horchet! es ist Allahs Partei, die erfolgreich ist.

Non troverai nessuno che creda in Allah e nell'Ultimo Giorno e che ami coloro che s'oppongono ad Allah e al Suo messaggero, si trattasse pure dei loro padri, o dei loro figli, o dei loro fratelli, o dei loro parenti. Nel cuore di costoro Allah ha iscritto la vera fede e costoro Egli ha rinvigorito con ispirazione da parte Sua. Ed Egli li farà entrare in giardini in cui scorrono fiumi. Là essi abiteranno. Allah è soddisfatto di loro ed essi sono soddisfatti di Allah. Sono loro il partito di Allah. Badate bene! È il partito di Allah che avrà successo.

No encontrarás pueblo alguno que crea en Al-lah y en el Último Día y ame a quienes se oponen a Al-lah y a Su Mensajero, aun cuando sean sus padres, sus hijos, sus hermanos o sus familiares. Son aquellos en cuyos corazones Al-lah ha grabado la fe verdadera y a quienes Él ha fortalecido con una Palabra Suya. Él los hará entrar en Jardines por los que corren ríos. En ellos habitarán. Al-lah se congratula con ellos y ellos se congratulan con Él. Son del partido de Al-lah. ¡Oíd vosotros, humanos! El partido de Al-lah es el que tendrá éxito.

تو ایسی قوم نہ پائے گا‘ جو اللہ اور یوم آخر پر بھی ایمان لاتی ہو اور اللہ اور اس کے رسول کی شدید مخالفت کرنے والے سے بھی محبت رکھتی ہو خواہ ایسے لوگ ان کے باپ ہوں یا بیٹے ہوں یا بھائی ہوں یا ان کے خاندان میں سے ہوں۔ یہی (مومن) ہیں جن کے دلوں میں اللہ نے ایمان نقش کر دیا ہے اور اپنی طرف سے کلام بھیج کر ان کی مدد کی ہے اور وہ ان کو ایسی جنتوں میں داخل کرے گا جن کے نیچے نہریں بہتی ہوں گی وہ ان میں رہتے چلے جائیں گے اللہ ان سے راضی ہو گیا اور وہ اللہ سے راضی ہو گئے۔ وہ اللہ کا گروہ ہیں (اور) سن رکھو کہ اللہ کا گروہ ہی کامیاب ہوا کرتا ہے۔

[c]Thou wilt not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day and yet they love those who oppose Allah and His Messenger,[3014] even though they be their fathers, or their sons, or their brethren, or their kindred. These are they in whose hearts Allah has inscribed true faith and whom He has strengthened with inspiration from Himself. And He will admit them into Gardens through which streams flow. Therein they will abide; [a]Allah is well-pleased with them and they are well-pleased with Him. They are Allah’s party. Hearken! it is Allah’s party who are the successful.

Obviously, there could be no true or sincere friendship or relationship of love between the believers and the disbelievers. The ideals, principles and religious beliefs of the two being poles apart, and the community of interests which is the sine qua non of real intimate relationship being non-existent, believers are required not to have intimate and affectionate friendship with disbelievers. The bonds of Faith transcend all other bonds, even the close ties of blood. The verse seems to be of general application. But it applies specially to disbelievers who are at war with Muslims.

Commentary:
Obviously, there could be no true or sincere friendship or relationship of love between the Faithful and the disbelievers. The ideals, principles, and religious beliefs of the two being poles apart and the community of interest which is the sine qua non of intimate relationship being non-existent, the verse requires believers not to have intimate, loving and affectionate friendship with disbelievers. The bond of belief transcends all other bonds even the close ties of blood. The verse seems to have a general application. But it applies specially to disbelievers who are at war with Muslims. See also 60:10. The word, "Allah is well-pleased with them" constitute a Divine certificate of honour that is bestowed upon the Faithful who prefer God and His Messengers to all worldly connections, even very near blood relationships.

تم کبھی یہ نہ پاؤ گے کہ جو لوگ اللہ اور آخرت پر ایمان رکھنے والے ہیں وہ اُن لوگوں سے محبت کرتے ہوں جنہوں نے اللہ اور اس کے رسول کی مخالفت کی ہے، خواہ وہ اُن کے باپ ہوں، یا اُن کے بیٹے، یا اُن کے بھائی یا اُن کے اہل خاندان یہ وہ لوگ ہیں جن کے دلوں میں اللہ نے ایمان ثبت کر دیا ہے اور اپنی طرف سے ایک روح عطا کر کے ان کو قوت بخشی ہے وہ ان کو ایسی جنتوں میں داخل کرے گا جن کے نیچے نہریں بہتی ہوں گی ان میں وہ ہمیشہ رہیں گے اللہ ان سے راضی ہوا اور وہ اللہ سے راضی ہوئے وہ اللہ کی پارٹی کے لوگ ہیں خبردار رہو، اللہ کی پارٹی والے ہی فلاح پانے والے ہیں

You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred. Those - He has decreed within their hearts faith and supported them with spirit from Him. And We will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him - those are the party of Allah. Unquestionably, the party of Allah - they are the successful.

You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Day the Last loving (those) who oppose Allah and His Messenger even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred. God and His Messenger, not though they were their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their clan. Those -- He has written faith upon their hearts, and He has confirmed them with a Spirit from Himself; and He shall admit them into gardens underneath which rivers flow, therein to dwell forever, God being well-pleased with them, and they well-pleased with Him. Those are God's party; why, surely God's party -- they are the prosperers.

Commentary:
Obviously, there could be no true or sincere friendship or relationship of love between the Faithful and the disbelievers. The ideals, principles, and religious beliefs of the two being poles apart and the community of interest which is the sine qua non of intimate relationship being non-existent, the verse requires believers not to have intimate, loving and affectionate friendship with disbelievers. The bond of belief transcends all other bonds even the close ties of blood. The verse seems to have a general application. But it applies specially to disbelievers who are at war with Muslims. See also 60:10. The word, "Allah is well-pleased with them" constitute a Divine certificate of honour that is bestowed upon the Faithful who prefer God and His Messengers to all worldly connections, even very near blood relationships.
