بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

17:2

سُبْحَٰنَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَسْرَىٰ بِعَبْدِهِۦ لَيْلًا مِّنَ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ إِلَى ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْأَقْصَا ٱلَّذِى بَٰرَكْنَا حَوْلَهُۥ لِنُرِيَهُۥ مِنْ ءَايَٰتِنَآ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
Glory be to Him Who carried His servant by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Distant Mosque, the environs of which We have blessed, that We might show him some of Our Signs. Surely, He alone is the Hearing, the Seeing.

Glory be to Him Who carried His servant by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Distant Mosque, the [b]environs of which We have blessed, that We might show him some of Our Signs. Surely, He alone is the Hearing, the Seeing.[1931]
English - Short Commentary Translation
Glory be to Him Who carried[1590] His servant by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Distant Mosque,[1591] the [a]environs of which We have blessed, that We might show him some of Our Signs.[1591A] Surely, He alone is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.
17:3

وَءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَجَعَلْنَٰهُ هُدًى لِّبَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ أَلَّا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ مِن دُونِى وَكِيلًا

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
And We gave Moses the Book, and We made it a guidance for the children of Israel, saying, ‘Take no guardian beside Me,

And [a]We gave Moses the Book, and We made it a guidance for the children of Israel, saying, [b]‘Take no guardian beside Me,[1932]
English - Short Commentary Translation
And [a]We gave Moses the Book and We made it a guidance for the Children of Israel, commanding [b]‘Take ye no guardian beside Me’,
17:4

ذُرِّيَّةَ مَنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُوحٍ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
‘O ye the progeny of those whom We carried in the Ark with Noah.’ He was indeed a grateful servant.

O ye the progeny of [b]those whom We carried in the Ark with Noah.’ He was indeed a grateful servant.[1933]
English - Short Commentary Translation
‘O ye, the progeny of those [c]whom We carried in the Ark with Noah.’ He was indeed a grateful servant of Ours.
17:5

وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ فِى ٱلْكِتَٰبِ لَتُفْسِدُنَّ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مَرَّتَيْنِ وَلَتَعْلُنَّ عُلُوًّا كَبِيرًا

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
And We revealed to the children of Israel in the Book, saying, ‘You will surely do mischief in the land twice, and you will surely become excessively overbearing.’

And We revealed to the children of Israel in the Book, saying, ‘You will surely do mischief in the land twice, and you will surely become excessively overbearing.’[1934]
English - Short Commentary Translation
And We had clearly conveyed to the Children of Israel in the Book: ‘You will surely do great mischief in the land twice,[1592] and you will surely become excessively over bearing.’
17:6

فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعْدُ أُولَىٰهُمَا بَعَثْنَا عَلَيْكُمْ عِبَادًا لَّنَآ أُو۟لِى بَأْسٍ شَدِيدٍ فَجَاسُوا۟ خِلَٰلَ ٱلدِّيَارِ ۚ وَكَانَ وَعْدًا مَّفْعُولًا

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
So when the time for the first of the two warnings came, We sent against you some servants of Ours possessed of great might in war, and they penetrated the innermost parts of your houses, and it was a warning that was bound to be carried out.

So when the time for the first of the two warnings came, We sent against you some servants of Ours possessed of great might in war, and they penetrated the innermost parts of your houses, and it was a warning that was bound to be carried out.[1935]

So when the time for the fulfilment of the first[1593] of the two warnings came, We sent against you some servants of Ours, possessed of great might in war, and they penetrated into your houses and it was a warning that was bound to be fulfilled.
17:7

ثُمَّ رَدَدْنَا لَكُمُ ٱلْكَرَّةَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَأَمْدَدْنَٰكُم بِأَمْوَٰلٍ وَبَنِينَ وَجَعَلْنَٰكُمْ أَكْثَرَ نَفِيرًا

Then We gave you back the power against them, and aided you with wealth and children, and made you larger in numbers.

Then We gave you back the power against them, and aided you with wealth and children, and made you larger in numbers.[1936]
English - Short Commentary Translation
Then We gave you back the power against them and aided you with wealth and children and also made you larger in numbers[1594] than before.
17:8

إِنْ أَحْسَنتُمْ أَحْسَنتُمْ لِأَنفُسِكُمْ ۖ وَإِنْ أَسَأْتُمْ فَلَهَا ۚ فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعْدُ ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ لِيَسُۥٓـُٔوا۟ وُجُوهَكُمْ وَلِيَدْخُلُوا۟ ٱلْمَسْجِدَ كَمَا دَخَلُوهُ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ وَلِيُتَبِّرُوا۟ مَا عَلَوْا۟ تَتْبِيرًا

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
Now, if you do well, you will do well for your own souls; and if you do evil, it will only go against them. So when the time for the latter warning came, We raised a people against you to cover your faces with grief, and to enter the Mosque as they entered it the first time, and to destroy all that they conquered with utter destruction.

Now, [a]if you do well, you will do well for your own souls; and if you do evil, it will only go against them. Now, [a]if you do good, you will do good for your own souls; and if you do evil, it will be to your own loss. So when the time for the fulfilment of the latter warning came, We raised a people against you that they might cover your faces with grief,[1594A] and that they enter the Mosque, as they entered it the first time, and that they might destroy utterly all that they conquered.[1595]
17:9

عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمْ أَن يَرْحَمَكُمْ ۚ وَإِنْ عُدتُّمْ عُدْنَا ۘ وَجَعَلْنَا جَهَنَّمَ لِلْكَٰفِرِينَ حَصِيرًا

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
It may be that your Lord will now have mercy on you; but if you return to your previous state, We too will return, and We have made Hell a prison for the disbelievers.

It may be that your Lord will now have mercy on you; but if you return to your previous state, We too will return, and We have made Hell a prison for the disbelievers.[1938]

It may be that your Lord will now have mercy on you; but if you return to mischief, We too will return to punishment, and remember We have made Hell a prison for the disbelievers.
17:10

إِنَّ هَٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ يَهْدِى لِلَّتِى هِىَ أَقْوَمُ وَيُبَشِّرُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًا كَبِيرًا

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
Surely, this Qur’an guides to what is most right; and gives to the believers who do good deeds the glad tidings that they shall have a great reward.

Surely, [a]this Quran guides to what is most right; and gives to the believers who do good deeds the glad tidings that they shall have a great reward.[1939]
