41:35

وَلَا تَسۡتَوِی الۡحَسَنَۃُ وَلَا السَّیِّئَۃُ ۚ اِدۡفَعۡ بِالَّتِیۡ ہِیَ اَحۡسَنُ فَاِذَا الَّذِیۡ بَیۡنَکَ وَبَیۡنَہٗ عَدٰوَۃٌ کَاَنَّہٗ وَلِیٌّ حَمِیۡمٌ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And good and evil are not alike. Repel evil with that which is best. And lo, he between whom and thyself was enmity will become as though he were a warm friend.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

نہ اچھائی برائی کے برابر ہو سکتی ہے اور نہ برائی اچھائی کے (برابر)۔ ایسی چیز سے دفاع کر کہ جو بہترین ہو۔ تب ایسا شخص جس کے اور تیرے درمیان دشمنی تھی وہ گویا اچانک ایک جاں نثار دوست بن جائے گا۔

French

Et le bien et le mal ne sont pas pareils. Repousse le mal par ce qui est le meilleur. Et voilà que celui entre lequel et toi-même il y avait de l’inimitié, devient comme s’il était un ami chaleureux.

German

Gut und Böse sind nicht gleich. Wehre (das Böse) mit dem ab, was das Beste ist. Und siehe, wenn Feindschaft zwischen dir und einem anderen war, so wird der wie ein warmherziger Freund werden.

Chinese

善恶不是一样的。要以最好的品德[c]防阻 (罪恶)。[1191]看哪! 那对你有敌意的人会马上变成好象你旧日的密友。

因为真理的传播不可避免地会相应给传教者带来苦难, 这节经文告诫他们对于苦难要耐心忍受, 甚至对于在迫害者手中所受到的恶要以善相报。

Italian

E il bene e il male non sono uguali. Respingete il male con ciò che è migliore. Ed ecco, colui tra il quale e te c'era nemicizia, diventerà come il tuo amico caloroso.

Spanish

Pues el bien y el mal no son equiparables. Rechaza el mal con lo que es mejor y observa como aquel entre cuya persona y tú existía la enemistad, se vuelve como si fuera un amigo entrañable.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور نیکی اور بدی برابر نہیں ہو سکتی۔ اور تو برائی کا جواب نہایت نیک سلوک سے دے اس کا نتیجہ یہ ہوگا کہ وہ شخص کہ اس کے اور تیرے درمیان عداوت پائی جاتی ہے‘ وہ تیرے حسن سلوک کو دیکھ کر ایک گرم جوش دوست بن جائے گا۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

And good and evil are not alike. [b]Repel evil with that which is best.[2636] And lo, he, between whom and thyself was enmity, will become as though he were a warm friend.

13:23; 28:55.

As the preaching of truth inevitably brings in its wake hardships for the preacher, the verse enjoins upon him to bear them patiently and with fortitude, and even to return good for the evil he receives at the hands of his persecutors.

Commentary:

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اور اے نبیؐ، نیکی اور بدی یکساں نہیں ہیں تم بدی کو اُس نیکی سے دفع کرو جو بہترین ہو تم دیکھو گے کہ تمہارے ساتھ جس کی عداوت پڑی ہوئی تھی وہ جگری دوست بن گیا ہے

English - Sahih

And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that [deed] which is better; and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend.

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

اور نیکی اور بدی برابر نہیں ہو تی (برائی کا) دفعیہ اس بات سے کیجیئے جو اچھی ہو پھر ناگہاں وہ شخص جو تیرے اور اس کے درمیان دشمنی تھی ایسا ہوگا گویاکہ وہ مخلص دوست ہے

English - Talal Itani

And not (are) equal the good (deed) and the evil (deed). Repel by (that) which [it] (is) better; then behold! One who, between you and between him, (was) enmity, (will become) as if he (was) a friend intimate.

English - Arberry

Not equal are the good deed and the evil deed. Repel with that which is fairer and behold, he between whom and thee there is enmity shall be as if he were a loyal friend.

English - Maududi

(O Prophet), good and evil are not equal. Repel (evil) with that which is good, and you will see that he, between whom and you there was enmity, shall become as if he were a bosom friend (of yours).

Good and evil are not alike. Repel evil with what is good. Then you will find your erstwhile enemy like a close. affectionate friend.

Nor can goodness and Evil be equal. Repel (Evil) with what is better: Then will he between whom and thee was hatred become as it were thy friend and intimate!
