فَلَمَّا كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابَ إِذَا هُمْ يَنكُثُونَ

But when We removed the punishment from them, behold! they broke their word.

پس جب ہم نے ان سے عذاب کو دور کردیا تو معاً وہ بدعہدی کرنے لگے۔

پھر جب ہم نے ان سے عذاب ٹلا دیا تو وہ فوراً عہد شکنی کرنے لگ گئے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

But [b]when We removed the punishment from them, behold! they broke their pledge.

7:136.

English - Five Volume Translation

But [b]when We removed the punishment from them, behold! they broke their word.[3675]

7:136; 23:76.

Commentary:

The Bible is full of instances of the repeated breach of promise by Pharaoh and his people. Whenever they found Divine punishment actually overtaking them, they begged Moses to pray to God to remove it and promised that if He removed it they would believe in him. But every time they broke their plighted word till the cup of their iniquities became full and they could no longer avert Divine punishment by such subterfuges. The consequence was that they were drowned in the sea.

مگر جوں ہی کہ ہم ان پر سے عذاب ہٹا دیتے وہ اپنی بات سے پھر جاتے تھے

But when We removed from them the affliction, at once they broke their word.
