اور جو لوگ (موسیٰ کی) کتاب کو مضبوطی سے پکڑے ہوئے ہیں اور انہوں نے نماز کو قائم رکھا ہے ہم ایسے مصلحین کے اجر کو ضائع نہیں کریں گے۔

مَا كَانَ لِأَهْلِ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ أَن يَتَخَلَّفُوا۟ عَن رَّسُولِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا يَرْغَبُوا۟ بِأَنفُسِهِمْ عَن نَّفْسِهِۦ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ لَا يُصِيبُهُمْ ظَمَأٌ وَلَا نَصَبٌ وَلَا مَخْمَصَةٌ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا يَطَـُٔونَ مَوْطِئًا يَغِيظُ ٱلْكُفَّارَ وَلَا يَنَالُونَ مِنْ عَدُوٍّ نَّيْلًا إِلَّا كُتِبَ لَهُم بِهِۦ عَمَلٌ صَٰلِحٌ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

It was not proper for the people of Medina and those around them from among the Arabs of the desert that they should have remained behind the Messenger of Allah or that they should have preferred their own lives to his. That is because there distresses them neither thirst nor fatigue nor hunger in the way of Allah, nor do they tread a track which enrages the disbelievers, nor do they cause an enemy any injury whatsoever, but there is written down for them a good work on account of it. Surely, Allah suffers not the reward of those who do good to be lost.

اہل مدینہ کے لئے اور ان کے اردگرد بسنے والے بادیہ نشینوں کے لئے جائز نہ تھا کہ اللہ کے رسول کو چھوڑ کر پیچھے رہ جاتے، اور نہ ہی یہ مناسب تھا کہ اس کی ذات کے مقابل پر اپنے آپ کو پسند کرلیتے۔ (یہ نفوس کی قربانی لازم تھی) کیونکہ حقیقت یہی ہے کہ انہیں اللہ کی راہ میں کوئی پیاس اور کوئی مشقت اور کوئی بھوک کی مصیبت نہیں پہنچتی اور نہ ہی وہ ایسے رستوں پر چلتے ہیں جن پر (ان کا) چلنا کفار کو غصہ دلاتا ہے اور نہ ہی وہ دشمن سے (دورانِ قتال) کچھ حاصل کرتے ہیں مگر ضرور اس کے بدلے ان کے حق میں ایک نیک عمل لکھ دیا جاتا ہے۔ اللہ احسان کرنے والوں کا اجر ہرگز ضائع نہیں کرتا۔
French
Il ne convenait pas aux habitants de Médine et à ceux des Bédouins qui habitaient autour, qu’ils restent derrière, laissant partir le Messager d’Allāh ou qu’ils préfèrent leurs propres vies à la sienne. La raison en est que dans la voie d’Allāh, ni la soif, ni les fatigues, ni la faim ne les accablent, et qu’ils ne foulent aucune piste qui fasse enrager les mécréants, et qu’ils n’obtiennent aucun avantage sur l’ennemi, sans qu’une bonne œuvre ne soit consignée par écrit en leur faveur pour cela. Assurément, Allāh ne laisse pas perdre la récompense de ceux qui font le bien.

Es ziemte sich nicht für die Bewohner von Medina noch für die um sie wohnenden Wüstenaraber, dass sie hinter dem Gesandten Allahs zurückbleiben und ihr Leben dem seinigen vorziehen sollten. Dies, weil weder Durst noch Mühsal noch Hunger sie auf Allahs Weg bedrängt, noch betreten sie einen Pfad, der die Ungläubigen erzürnt, noch fügen sie einem Feinde Leid zu, wofür ihnen nicht ein verdienstliches Werk angeschrieben würde. Allah lässt den Lohn derer, die Gutes tun, nicht verloren gehen.

麦地那人及其四周住在沙漠地区的人不应留在安拉使者的后方, 也不应当忽视他的生命而顾虑自己的生命。这 (决定) 是因为他们在安拉的道上所遭受的干渴、疲劳、饥饿, 和触怒不信者的每一步伐, 以及从敌人得来的任何事物, 都被记录于他们的善行之中。安拉一定不让行善者的回报丧失。

Non era giusto per il popolo di Medina e per gli abitanti dei dintorni, fra i Beduini del deserto, rimanere indietro al messaggero di Allah, o preferire la propria vita alla sua. Ciò perché né sete, né stanchezza, né fame avrebbe potuto colpirli seguendo la via di Allah, né essi faranno un passo che faccia incollerire i miscredenti, né otterranno un vantaggio sul nemico, senza che ciò venga ascritto a loro favore come opera buona. Certo Allah non permette che si perda la ricompensa di quelli che fanno del bene.

No había razón para que las gentes de Medina y de sus alrededores de entre los moradores del desierto permanecieran detrás del Mensajero de Al-lah, o que hubieran preferido sus propias vidas a la de él. Esto es porque en el camino de Al-lah no les aflige la sed, la fatiga o el hambre, ni toman una senda que moleste a los incrédulos, ni ganan ventaja al enemigo, sin que se les contara como una buena obra en razón de todo ello. En verdad, Al-lah no permite que se pierda la recompensa de los que hacen el bien.

اہل مدینہ اور جو ان کے ارد گرد دیہاتی (اورجنگلی) رہتے ہیں ان کو مناسب نہ تھا کہ اللہ کے رسول کو (اکیلا) چھوڑ کر آپ پیچھے رہ جاتے اور نہ (یہ کہ) اس کی جان سے بے پرواہ ہو کر اپنی جانوں کی فکر میں لگ جاتے۔ یہ (فیصلہ) اس لئے (کیا جاتا) ہے کہ کوئی پیاس یا تھکان یا بھوک کی گھڑی ان پر اللہ کے رستہ میں نہیں آتی اور نہ وہ کسی زمین پر قدم مارتے ہیں جو کفار کو غصہ دلاتا ہو اور نہ وہ دشمن پر کوئی فتح پاتے ہیں کہ ان کے لئے اس کے بدلہ میں نیک عمل نہ لکھا جاتا ہو۔ اللہ محسنوں کا اجر کبھی ضائع نہیں کرتا۔

Important Words:
موطأ (track) is derived from وطیء. They say وطئ الشیء he trod upon the thing with his feet or he trampled upon the thing. موطأtherefore, means, a place trod upon; a footstep or footprint (Lane).
Commentary:
The verse relates some of the great advantages which would have accrued to the laggards if they had accompanied the Holy Prophet to Tabuk.

مدینے کے باشندوں اور گرد و نواح کے بدویوں کو یہ ہرگز زبیا نہ تھا کہ اللہ کے رسول کو چھوڑ کر گھر بیٹھ رہتے اور اس کی طرف سے بے پروا ہو کر اپنے اپنے نفس کی فکر میں لگ جاتے اس لیے کہ ایسا کبھی نہ ہوگا کہ اللہ کی راہ میں بھوک پیاس اور جسمانی مشقت کی کوئی تکلیف وہ جھیلیں، اور منکرین حق کو جو راہ ناگوار ہے اُس پر کوئی قدم وہ اٹھائیں، اور کسی دشمن سے (عداوت حق کا) کا کوئی انتقام وہ لیں اور اس کے بدلے ان کے حق میں ایک عمل صالح نہ لکھا جائے یقیناً اللہ کے ہاں محسنوں کا حق الخدمت مارا نہیں جاتا ہے
English - Sahih
It was not [proper] for the people of Madinah and those surrounding them of the bedouins that they remain behind after [the departure of] the Messenger of Allah or that they prefer themselves over his self. That is because they are not afflicted by thirst or fatigue or hunger in the cause of Allah, nor do they tread on any ground that enrages the disbelievers, nor do they inflict upon an enemy any infliction but that is registered for them as a righteous deed. Indeed, Allah does not allow to be lost the reward of the doers of good.

Not it was (for) the people of the Madinah and who were around them of the bedouins, that they remain behind after the Messenger of Allah, and not they prefer their lives to his life. It is not for the people of the City and for the Bedouins who dwell around them to stay behind God's Messenger, and to prefer their lives to his; that is because they are smitten neither by thirst, nor fatigue, nor emptiness in the way of God, neither tread they any tread enraging the unbelievers, nor gain any gain from any enemy, but a righteous deed is thereby written to their account; God leaves not to waste the wage of the good-doers.

It did not behove the people of Madinah and the bedouin Arabs around them that they should refrain from accompanying the Messenger of Allah and stay behind and prefer their own security to his. For whenever they suffer from thirst or weariness or hunger in the Way of Allah, and whenever they tread a place which enrages the unbelievers (whenever anything of this comes to pass), a good deed is recorded in their favour. Allah does not cause the work of the doers of good to go to waste.

Commentary:
The words, And thus did We establish Joseph in the land, also occur in 12:22, where they are followed by the expression, that We might also teach him the interpretation of things, while in the verse under comment they are succeeded by the sentence, We bestow Our mercy upon whomsoever We please. This is because in the former case Joseph’s mettle was yet to be tried. But now that he had emerged triumphant from the ordeal, he was henceforward to enjoy uniform honour and prosperity.
This verse contains the thirteenth point of resemblance between Joseph and the Holy Prophet. Just as the brethren of Joseph, being jealous of his father’s regard for him, sought to remove him from their way and bring him to grief and dishonour, similarly, the Holy Prophet was compelled to leave his native city by his own kith and kin; but God conferred on him, as on Joseph, honour and distinction; with the difference that, whereas Joseph received his authority and honour from a king, the Holy
Prophet was indebted to no earthly potentate for all the power and glory that came to him. Indeed, the difference in the way in which these two Prophets rose to power and eminence is symbolic of the difference in their spiritual status.

اِس طرح ہم نے اُس سرزمین میں یوسفؑ کے لیے اقتدار کی راہ ہموار کی وہ مختار تھا کہ اس میں جہاں چاہے اپنی جگہ بنائے ہم اپنی رحمت سے جس کو چاہتے ہیں نوازتے ہیں، نیک لوگوں کا اجر ہمارے ہاں مارا نہیں جاتا

Thus did We bring about the assignment of Joseph to a position of authority in the land. He could dwell therein wherever he pleased. We bestow Our mercy on whomsoever We please in this very life, and We suffer not the reward of the righteous to perish.
18:31
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ إِنَّا لَا نُضِيعُ أَجْرَ مَنْ أَحْسَنَ عَمَلًا
English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
Verily, those who believe and do good works — surely, We suffer not the reward of those who do good works to be lost.

یقیناً وہ لوگ جو ایمان لے آئے اور نیک اعمال بجا لائے (سُن لیں کہ) ہم ہرگز اُس کا اجر ضائع نہیں کرتے جس نے عمل کو اچھا بنایا ہو۔

En vérité, ceux qui croient et font de bonnes œuvres – assurément, Nous ne laisserons pas perdre la récompense de ceux qui font de bonnes œuvres.

(ہاں) جو لوگ ایمان لائے اور انہوں نے نیک (اور مناسب حال) عمل کیے ہیں (وہ یقیناً بڑے اجر پائیں گے) جنہوں نے اچھے کام کیے ہوں ہم ان کا اجر ہرگز ضائع نہیں کرتے۔

Commentary:
As against the futile efforts of the powerful western nations to establish peace in the world, the tiny and seemingly insignificant but honest contributions towards this noble purpose of those good and righteous people—the companions of the Mahdi, will be crowned with success because though deprived of all worldly pomp and glory they will have firm faith in God and will live up to their noble ideals.

رہے وہ لوگ جو مان لیں اور نیک عمل کریں، تو یقیناً ہم نیکو کار لوگوں کا اجر ضائع نہیں کیا کرتے

Commentary:
The verse purports to say that God covers up lapses, if any, of believers, and protects them against their evil consequences, while He rewards their good actions, of whatever degree and measure, as He would reward their best actions.
