وَاِذَا جَآءَتۡہُمۡ اٰیَۃٌ قَالُوۡا لَنۡ نُّؤۡمِنَ حَتّٰی نُؤۡتٰی مِثۡلَ مَاۤ اُوۡتِیَ رُسُلُ اللّٰہِ ۘ اللّٰہُ اَعۡلَمُ حَیۡثُ یَجۡعَلُ رِسَالَتَہٗ ۗ سَیُصِیۡبُ الَّذِیۡنَ اَجۡرَمُوۡا صَغَارٌ عِنۡدَ اللّٰہِ وَعَذَابٌ شَدِیۡدٌۢ بِمَا کَانُوۡا یَمۡکُرُوۡنَ
English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
And when there comes to them a Sign, they say, ‘We will not believe until we are given the like of that which Allah’s Messengers have been given.’ Allah knows best where to place His Message. Surely, humiliation before Allah and a severe punishment shall smite the offenders because of their plotting.
اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ
اور جب ان کے پاس کوئی نشان آتا ہے وہ کہتے ہیں ہم ہرگز ایمان نہیں لائیں گے یہاں تک کہ ہمیں ویسا ہی (نشان) دیا جائے جیسا (پہلے) اللہ کے رسولوں کو دیا گیا تھا۔ اللہ سب سے زیادہ جانتا ہے کہ اپنی رسالت کا انتخاب کہاں سے کرے۔ جو لوگ جرم کرتے ہیں انہیں یقیناً اللہ کے حضور ذلّت پہنچے گی اور ایک سخت عذاب بھی بسبب اس کے جو وہ مکر کرتے رہے۔
French
Et lorsqu’il leur vient un Signe, ils disent : « Nous ne voulons pas croire avant d’avoir reçu une révélation pareille à celle qui a été donnée aux Messagers d’Allāh. » Or, Allāh sait le mieux où placer Son Message. Assurément, aux yeux d’Allāh, l’humiliation et un châtiment sévère frapperont les coupables pour les complots qu’ils ont ourdis.

Und wenn ihnen ein Zeichen kommt, sagen sie: "Wir werden nicht eher glauben, als bis wir dasselbe erhalten, was die Gesandten Gottes erhalten haben." Allah weiß am besten, wohin Er Seine Botschaft hinlegt. Wahrlich, Erniedrigung vor Allah und eine strenge Strafe wird die Sünder treffen für ihre Ränke.

Y cuando les llega un Signo dicen: “No creeremos mientras no se nos dé algo semejante a lo que se ha dado a los Mensajeros de Al-lah”. Al-lah sabe mejor que nadie donde colocar su Mensaje. En verdad, la humillación ante Al-lah y un severo castigo afligirán a los pecadores por lo que tramaron.
اردو تفسیرِ صغیر
اور جب ان کے پاس کوئی نشان آتا ہے تو کہتے ہیں کہ جب تک ہمیں ویسا ہی کلام نہ دیا جائے جو اللہ کے رسولوں کو دیا گیا ہے ہم ہرگز ایمان نہیں لائیں گے اللہ (سب سے) زیادہ جانتا ہے کہ وہ اپنی رسالت کہاں[2] رکھے۔ جن لوگوں نے گناہ کیا ہے انہیں بوجہ اس کے کہ وہ (نبی کے خلاف) تدبیریں کرتے ہیں اللہ کی طرف سے ضرور ذلت اور سخت عذاب پہنچے گا۔
یعنی کون رسول بننے کا مستحق ہے اور کون نہیں۔
English - Short Commentary Translation
And when there comes to them a Sign, they say, [a]‘We will not believe until we are given the like of that which Allah’s Messengers have been given.’ Allah knows best where to place His Message.[906A] Surely, humiliation before Allah and a severe punishment shall afflict the offenders because of their plotting.
28:49.
Allah knows best who is fit to be His Messenger and who is not.

Commentary:
The verse embodies the last argument or the last excuse of disbelievers in the present discussion. They say, "We will never believe in Divine revelation until we also receive revelation like unto the revelation of the Messengers of God. If God speaks to them, let Him speak to us also."
God answers this foolish objection by saying: "It is not to every man that God speaks; He speaks only to him whom He finds worthy of it and whom He selects for the purpose." As for those who make themselves deserving of humiliation and abasement, they cannot be honoured with messages from God. Their doom is only "humiliation and a severe punishment."

جب ان کے سامنے کوئی آیت آتی ہے تو وہ کہتے ہیں "ہم نہ مانیں گے جب تک کہ وہ چیز خود ہم کو نہ دی جائے جو اللہ کے رسولوں کو دی گئی ہے" اللہ زیادہ بہتر جانتا ہے کہ اپنی پیغامبری کا کام کس سے لے اور کس طرح لے قریب ہے وہ وقت جب یہ مجرم اپنی مکاریوں کی پاداش میں اللہ کے ہاں ذلت اور سخت عذاب سے دو چار ہوں گے
English - Sahih
And when a sign comes to them, they say, "Never will we believe until we are given like that which was given to the messengers of Allah." Allah is most knowing of where He places His message. There will afflict those who committed crimes debasement before Allah and severe punishment for what they used to conspire.

جب ان کے پاس کوئی نشانی آتی ہے تو کہتے ہیں ہم نہیں مانیں گے جب تک کہ وہ چیز خود ہمیں نہ دی جائے جو الله کے رسولوں کو دی گئی ہے اور الله بہتر جانتا ہے کہ پیغمبری کا کام کس سے لے وہ وقت قریب ہے جب یہ مجرم اپنی مکاریو ں کی پاداش میں الله کے ہاں ذلت اور سخت عذاب میں مبتلا ہوں گے

And when a sign came to them, they said, 'We will not believe until we are given the like of what God's Messengers were given.' God knows very well where to place His Message; and humiliation in God's sight shall befall the sinners, and a terrible chastisement, for what they devised.

Commentary:

اے دا ؤد! یقیناً ہم نے تجھے زمین میں خلیفہ بنایا ہے۔ پس لوگوں کے درمیان حق کے ساتھ فیصلہ کر اور میلانِ طبع کی پیروی نہ کر ورنہ وہ (میلان) تجھے اللہ کے رستے سے گمراہ کر دے گا۔ یقیناً وہ لوگ جو اللہ کے رستے سے گمراہ ہو جاتے ہیں ان کے لئے سخت عذاب (مقدر) ہے بوجہ اس کے کہ وہ حساب کا دن بھول گئے تھے۔

« Ô David, Nous t’avons fait un de Nos représentants sur la terre ; aussi juge entre les hommes avec justice, et ne suis pas les vains désirs, afin qu’ils ne t’égarent de la voie d’Allāh. » Assurément, ceux qui s’égarent de la voie d’Allāh auront un châtiment rigoureux, car ils ont oublié le Jour du Règlement des Comptes.

O David, Wir haben dich zu einem Stellvertreter auf Erden gemacht; richte darum zwischen den Menschen in Gerechtigkeit, und folge nicht dem Gelüst, dass es dich nicht abseits führe vom Wege Allahs. Jenen, die von Allahs Weg abirren, wird strenge Strafe, weil sie den Tag der Abrechnung vergaßen.

Quindi gli dicemmo: «David, ti abbiamo fatto vicegerente sulla terra. Giudica dunque tra la gente con giustizia, e non seguire il desiderio vano, per evitare di essere condotto fuori dalla via di Allah.» Per certo, coloro che deviano dalla via di Allah avranno un severo castigo, perché avevano dimenticato il Giorno della Resa dei conti.

“Oh David, te hemos convertido en vicario en la tierra; juzga pues entre los hombres con justicia, no sigas los vanos deseos, no sea que e aparten del camino de Al‑lah”. En verdad, quienes se aparten del camino de Al‑lah tendrán un severo castigo, porque han olvidado el Día de la Cuenta.

Commentary:
The verse further comforts David and assures him that God will protect him against the machinations and plots of his enemies. He had not made him His vicegerent in the earth that he should come to grief at the hands of his mischievous opponents.

(ہم نے اس سے کہا) "اے داؤدؑ، ہم نے تجھے زمین میں خلیفہ بنایا ہے، لہٰذا تو لوگوں کے درمیان حق کے ساتھ حکومت کر اور خواہش نفس کی پیروی نہ کر کہ وہ تجھے اللہ کی راہ سے بھٹکا دے گی جو لوگ اللہ کی راہ سے بھٹکتے ہیں یقیناً اُن کے لیے سخت سزا ہے کہ وہ یوم الحساب کو بھول گئے"

[We said], "O David, indeed We have made you a successor upon the earth, so judge between the people in truth and do not follow [your own] desire, as it will lead you astray from the way of Allah." Indeed, those who go astray from the way of Allah will have a severe punishment for having forgotten the Day of Account.

اے داؤد! ہم نے تجھے زمین میں بادشاہ بنایا ہے پس تم لوگو ں میں انصاف سے فیصلہ کیا کرو اور نفس کی خواہش کی پیروی نہ کرو کہ وہ تمہیں الله کی راہ سے ہٹا دے گی بے شک جو الله کی راہ سے گمراہ ہوتے ہیں ان کے لیے سخت عذاب ہے اس لیے کہ وہ حساب کے دن کوبھول گئے
