فَبَعَثَ ٱللَّهُ غُرَابًا يَبْحَثُ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيُرِيَهُۥ كَيْفَ يُوَٰرِى سَوْءَةَ أَخِيهِ ۚ قَالَ يَٰوَيْلَتَىٰٓ أَعَجَزْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِثْلَ هَٰذَا ٱلْغُرَابِ فَأُوَٰرِىَ سَوْءَةَ أَخِى ۖ فَأَصْبَحَ مِنَ ٱلنَّٰدِمِينَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Then Allah sent a raven which scratched in the ground, that He might show him how to hide the corpse of his brother. He said, ‘Woe is me! Am I not able to be even like this raven so that I may hide the corpse of my brother?’ And then he became regretful.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

پھر اللہ نے ایک کو ّے کو بھیجا جو زمین کو (پنجوں سے) کھود رہا تھا تاکہ وہ (یعنی اللہ) اسے سمجھا دے کہ کس طرح وہ اپنے بھائی کی لاش کو ڈھانپ دے۔وہ بول اُٹھا وائے حسرت! کیا میں اس بات سے بھی عاجز آ گیا کہ اس کو ّےجیسا ہی ہو جاتا اور اپنے بھائی کی لاش ڈھانپ دیتا۔ پس وہ پچھتانے والوں میں سے ہوگیا۔

French

Alors Allāh envoya un corbeau qui se mit à gratter le sol pour qu’Il lui montre comment ensevelir le cadavre de son frère. Il dit : « Malheureux que je suis ! Suis-je incapable d’être comme ce corbeau afin de pouvoir ensevelir le cadavre de mon frère ? » Et alors il fut pris de remords.

German

Da sandte Allah einen Raben, der auf dem Boden scharrte, dass Er ihm zeige, wie er den Leichnam seines Bruders verbergen könne. Er sprach: "Weh mir! Bin ich nicht einmal imstande, wie dieser Rabe zu sein und den Leichnam meines Bruders zu verbergen?" Und da wurde er reuig.

于是, 安拉遣送了一只挖掘泥土的乌鸦, 以便指示他怎样掩埋他弟兄的尸体。他说: “伤心啊!我怎么还不能像这只乌鸦那样把我的弟兄的尸体掩埋起来?” 于是他成为懊悔的人。

Allora Allah inviò un corvo, che si mise a raspare il suolo, per mostrargli come nascondere il cadavere di suo fratello. Ed egli esclamò: «Povero me! Non sono nemmeno in grado di essere come questo corvo e così aver modo di nascondere il cadavere di mio fratello?» E fu preso da rimorso.

Spanish

Entonces envió Al-lah un cuervo que se puso a escarbar en la tierra para mostrarle cómo esconder el cadáver de su hermano. Dijo: “¡Ay de mí! ¿no seré capaz siquiera de ser como este cuervo, y ocultar el cadáver de mi hermano?”. Entonces se sintió arrepentido.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

تب اللہ نے ایک کوّے [4]کو جو زمین کو کریدتا تھا اس لئے بھیجا کہ اسے بتائے کہ اپنے بھائی کی لاش کو کس طرح چھپائے۔ اس نے کہا۔ اے میری[5] ہلاکت! (جلد آ) کیا مجھ سے (اتنا بھی) نہ ہو سکا کہ میں اس کوے کی طرح ہو جاؤں اور اپنے بھائی کی لاش کو ڈھانپ دوں۔ تب وہ پشیمانوں میں سے ہو گیا۔

یعنی اتفاقاً ایک کوّا آگیا اور اس نے دوسرے کوّے کی لاش دیکھی اور پنجوں اور چونچ سے مٹی کرید کر اس پر ڈال دی اس پر قاتل بھائی کے دل میں جوش محبت پیدا ہوا اور اس نے یہ کہا۔ خداتعالیٰ کے کوّا بھیجنے سے مراد یہی ہے کہ اس کے عام قانون کے ماتحت ایک کوّا اڑتا ہوا وہاں پہنچ گیا۔

عربی کا محاورہ ہے کہ حسرت اور افسوس کے وقت یہ الفاظ کہتے ہیں۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

Then Allah sent a raven which scratched in the ground,[739] that He might show him how to hide the corpse of his brother. He said, ‘Woe is me! Am I not able to be even like this raven so that I may hide the corpse of my brother?’ And then he became remorseful.

Commentators differ as to whether the incident of the raven did actually happen or it is only a parable. It is not improbable that an incident of this nature might have actually occurred. Study of the ways and habits of birds has led to many useful discoveries. See Gen. 4:1-15; and 'The Jerusalem Targum.'

Commentary:

Commentators differ as to whether the incident of the raven mentioned in the present verse was an actual fact or whether it is merely meant as a parable. It is not at all improbable that an incident of this nature might have actually occurred. The study of the ways and habits of birds has led to many useful discoveries. For the Biblical story of the two sons of Adam see Gen. 4:1-15 also the Jerusalem Targum.

پھر اللہ نے ایک کوا بھیجا جو زمین کھودنے لگا تاکہ اُسے بتائے کہ اپنے بھائی کی لاش کیسے چھپائے یہ دیکھ کر وہ بولا افسوس مجھ پر! میں اس کوے جیسا بھی نہ ہوسکا کہ اپنے بھائی کی لاش چھپانے کی تدبیر نکال لیتا اس کے بعد وہ اپنے کیے پر بہت پچھتا یا

English - Sahih

Then Allah sent a crow searching in the ground to show him how to hide the disgrace of his brother. He said, "O woe to me! Have I failed to be like this crow and hide the body of my brother?" And he became of the regretful.

پھر الله نے ایک کوا بھیجا جو زمین کریدتا تھا تاکہ اسے دکھلائے کہ اپنے بھائی کی لاش کو کس طرح چھپاتا ہے اس نے کہا افسوس مجھ پر اس کوے جیسا بھی نہ ہو سکا کہ اپنے بھائی کی لاش چھپانے کی تدبیر کرتا پھر پچھتانے لگا

Then (was) sent (by) Allah a crow, it (was) scratching in the earth to show him how to hide (the) dead body (of) his brother. He said, "Woe to me! Am I unable that I can be like this [the] crow and hide (the) dead body (of) my brother?" Then he became of the regretful.

عربی کا محاورہ ہے کہ حسرت اور افسوس کے وقت یہ الفاظ کہتے ہیں۔

English - Arberry

Then God sent forth a raven, scratching into the earth, to show him how he might conceal the vile body of his brother. He said, 'Woe is me! Am I unable to be as this raven, and so conceal my brother's vile body?' And he became one of the remorseful.

English - Maududi

Thereupon Allah sent forth a raven who began to scratch the earth to show him how he might cover the corpse of his brother. So seeing he cried: 'Woe unto me! Was I unable even to be like this raven and find a way to cover the corpse of my brother? Then he became full of remorse at his doing.

Then God sent a raven which scratched the ground in order to show him how to hide the nakedness of his brother. "Alas, the woe," said he, "that I could not be even like the raven and hide the nakedness of my brother," and was filled with remorse.
