5:72

وَحَسِبُوٓا۟ أَلَّا تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌ فَعَمُوا۟ وَصَمُّوا۟ ثُمَّ تَابَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ثُمَّ عَمُوا۟ وَصَمُّوا۟ كَثِيرٌ مِّنْهُمْ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ بَصِيرٌۢ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And they thought there would be no punishment, so they became blind and deaf. But Allah turned to them in mercy; yet again many of them became blind and deaf; and Allah is Watchful of what they do.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور انہوں نے گمان کیا کہ کوئی فتنہ برپا نہ ہوگا۔ پس وہ اندھے اور بہرے ہو گئے۔ بعد ازاں اللہ اُن پر توبہ قبول کرتے ہوئے جھکا پھر بھی ان میں سے کثیر لوگ اندھے اور بہرے ہی رہے۔ اور اللہ جو وہ کرتے تھے اس پر گہری نظر رکھنے والا تھا۔

French

Et ils crurent qu’il n’y aurait pas de châtiment et devinrent donc aveugles et sourds. Mais malgré tout, Allāh S’est tourné vers eux avec clémence. Néanmoins, beaucoup d’entre eux ont demeuré aveugles et sourds ; et Allāh observe bien ce qu’ils font.

German

Und sie dachten, es würde keine schlimme Folge haben, so wurden sie blind und taub. Dann kehrte Sich Allah erbarmend zu ihnen; trotzdem wurden viele von ihnen abermals blind und taub; und Allah sieht wohl, was sie tun.

他们以为这不会遭致损害, 所以他们成了盲人和聋子。后来安拉又仁慈地关顾了他们, 继而他们许多人又成了盲人和聋子。凡是他们的所作所为, 安拉都是洞察的。

Italian

E pensavano che non ci sarebbe stato castigo, così divennero ciechi e sordi. Eppure Allah si volse a loro con misericordia; tuttavia di nuovo molti di essi divennero ciechi e sordi. E Allah vigila su quello che fanno.

Spanish

Y pensaron que de ello no se derivaría perjuicio alguno, por lo que quedaron ciegos y sordos. Y Al-lah se volvió a ellos con misericordia; y a pesar de esto, muchos de ellos permanecieron voluntariamente ciegos y sordos; y Al-lah vigila lo que hacen.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور انہوں نے (یہ) سمجھا کہ (اس سے) کوئی فتنہ نہیں ہوگا۔ اس لئے وہ اندھے اور بہرے ہو گئے۔ پھر اللہ نے شفقت کے ساتھ ان کی طرف توجہ فرمائی۔ مگر ان میں سے بہت سے پھر اندھے اور بہرے ہو گئے اور جو کچھ وہ کرتے ہیں اللہ اسے دیکھتا ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

And they imagined that no punishment would result from their conduct, so they became blind and deaf. But Allah turned to them in mercy; yet again many of them became blind and deaf; and Allah is Watchful of what they do.

English - Five Volume Translation

And they thought there would be no punishment, so they became blind and deaf. But Allah turned to them in mercy; yet again many of them became blind and deaf; and Allah is Watchful of what they do.[702]

Important Words:

فتنه (punishment) is the noun-infinitive from فتن and means a sin; an act of disobedience for which one deserves punishment; punishment itself; disgrace, shame or ignominy, etc. (Lane & Aqrab). See also 2:192 & 4:92.

Commentary:

The Jews thought that their rejection of, and opposition to, the Prophets would bring no punishment upon them. But they were mistaken. Misery and affliction continued to dog their footsteps till God turned to them in mercy by raising the Holy Prophet that they might believe in him and escape Divine punishment; but they also rejected him and thus lost their spiritual sight and hearing.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اور اپنے نزدیک یہ سمجھے کہ کوئی فتنہ رونما نہ ہوگا، اس لیے اندھے اور بہرے بن گئے پھر اللہ نے اُنہیں معاف کیا تو اُن میں سے اکثر لوگ اور زیادہ اندھے اور بہرے بنتے چلے گئے اللہ اُن کی یہ سب حرکات دیکھتا رہا ہے

English - Sahih

And they thought there would be no [resulting] punishment, so they became blind and deaf. Then Allah turned to them in forgiveness; then [again] many of them became blind and deaf. And Allah is Seeing of what they do.

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

اور یہی گمان کیا کہ کوئی فتنہ نہیں ہوگا پھر اندھے اور بہرے ہوئے پھر الله نے ان کی توبہ قبول کی پھر ان میں سے اکثر اندھے اور بہرے ہو گئے اور جو کچھ وہ کرتے ہیں الله دیکھتا ہے

English - Talal Itani

And they thought that not will be (for them) a trial, so they became blind and they became deaf. Then turned Allah to them, then (again) they became blind and they became deaf, many of them. And Allah (is) All-Seer of what they do.

Chinese Commentary ^*

اردہ تفصیرِ صغیر نوٹس ^*

English - Arberry

And they supposed there should be no trial; but blind they were, and deaf. Then God turned towards them; then again blind they were, many of them, and deaf; and God sees the things they do.

English - Maududi

thinking that no harm would come from it. Thus they became blind and deaf (to the Truth). Thereafter Allah turned towards them in gracious forgiveness; but many of them became even more deaf and blind (to the Truth). Allah sees all that they do.

English - Ahmed Ali

And imagined that no trials would befall them; and they turned deaf and blind (to the truth). But God still turned to them; yet many of them turned blind and deaf again; but God sees everything they do.

English - Yusuf Ali

They thought there would be no trial (or punishment); so they became blind and deaf; yet Allah (in mercy) turned to them; yet again many of them became blind and deaf. But Allah sees well all that they do.
