قَالَ فَإِنَّا قَدْ فَتَنَّا قَوْمَكَ مِنۢ بَعْدِكَ وَأَضَلَّهُمُ ٱلسَّامِرِىُّ

God said, ‘We have tried thy people in thy absence, and the Samiri has led them astray.’
20:87

فَرَجَعَ مُوسَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ غَضْبَٰنَ أَسِفًا ۚ قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ أَلَمْ يَعِدْكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ وَعْدًا حَسَنًا ۚ أَفَطَالَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْعَهْدُ أَمْ أَرَدتُّمْ أَن يَحِلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ غَضَبٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ فَأَخْلَفْتُم مَّوْعِدِى

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
So Moses returned to his people indignant and sad. He said, ‘O my people, did not your Lord promise you a gracious promise? Did, then, the appointed time appear too long to you, or did you desire that wrath should descend upon you from your Lord, that you broke your promise to me?’
20:88

قَالُوا۟ مَآ أَخْلَفْنَا مَوْعِدَكَ بِمَلْكِنَا وَلَٰكِنَّا حُمِّلْنَآ أَوْزَارًا مِّن زِينَةِ ٱلْقَوْمِ فَقَذَفْنَٰهَا فَكَذَٰلِكَ أَلْقَى ٱلسَّامِرِىُّ

They said, ‘We have not broken our promise to thee of our own accord; but we were laden with loads of people’s ornaments and we threw them away, and likewise did the Samiri cast.’
20:89

فَأَخْرَجَ لَهُمْ عِجْلًا جَسَدًا لَّهُۥ خُوَارٌ فَقَالُوا۟ هَٰذَآ إِلَٰهُكُمْ وَإِلَٰهُ مُوسَىٰ فَنَسِىَ

Calf / Heifer, Cow / Took For WorshipCustoms Of / EgyptiansMoses / Musa(as) / Story OfSamiri

Then he produced for them a calf — an image producing a lowing sound. And they said, ‘This is your God, and the God of Moses.’ So he gave up the religion of Moses.
20:90

أَفَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَلَّا يَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهِمْ قَوْلًا وَلَا يَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ ضَرًّا وَلَا نَفْعًا

Idolators / Pagans, (Mushrikin) / Their Gods Produce Nothing, Are Helpless, DeadMoses / Musa(as) / Story OfSamiri

Could they not see that it returned to them no answer, and had no power to do them either harm or good?
20:91

وَلَقَدْ قَالَ لَهُمْ هَٰرُونُ مِن قَبْلُ يَٰقَوْمِ إِنَّمَا فُتِنتُم بِهِۦ ۖ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ فَٱتَّبِعُونِى وَأَطِيعُوٓا۟ أَمْرِى

Aaron (Harun(as)) / Cleared Of Biblical CondemnationBible / The/ Qur’an AndMoses / Musa(as) / Story OfSamiri
English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
And Aaron had said to them before this, ‘O my people, you have only been tried by means of it (the calf). And surely, the Gracious God is your Lord; so follow me and obey my command.’
20:92

قَالُوا۟ لَن نَّبْرَحَ عَلَيْهِ عَٰكِفِينَ حَتَّىٰ يَرْجِعَ إِلَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ

They replied, ‘We shall not cease to worship it until Moses return to us.’
20:93

قَالَ يَٰهَٰرُونُ مَا مَنَعَكَ إِذْ رَأَيْتَهُمْ ضَلُّوٓا۟

Moses said, “O Aaron, what hindered thee, when thou didst see them gone astray,
20:94

أَلَّا تَتَّبِعَنِ ۖ أَفَعَصَيْتَ أَمْرِى

Aaron (Harun(as)) / Reprimanded By MosesMoses / Musa(as) / Story OfSamiri

‘From following me? Hast thou then disobeyed my command?’
20:95

قَالَ يَبْنَؤُمَّ لَا تَأْخُذْ بِلِحْيَتِى وَلَا بِرَأْسِىٓ ۖ إِنِّى خَشِيتُ أَن تَقُولَ فَرَّقْتَ بَيْنَ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ وَلَمْ تَرْقُبْ قَوْلِى

Bani Isra’il / Bestowed Prophet-Hood, Signs, Sovereignty, SuperiorityBeardSon Of… / My MotherMoses / Musa(as) / Story OfSamiri

He answered, “O son of my mother seize me not by my beard, nor by the hair of my head. I feared lest thou shouldst say, ‘Thou hast caused a division among the children of Israel, and didst not wait for my word.’”
20:96

قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكَ يَٰسَٰمِرِىُّ

Moses said, ‘And what hast thou to say, O Samiri?’
20:97

قَالَ بَصُرْتُ بِمَا لَمْ يَبْصُرُوا۟ بِهِۦ فَقَبَضْتُ قَبْضَةً مِّنْ أَثَرِ ٱلرَّسُولِ فَنَبَذْتُهَا وَكَذَٰلِكَ سَوَّلَتْ لِى نَفْسِى

Moses / Musa(as) / Story OfSamiri
English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
He said, ‘I perceived what they perceived not. I only partly received the impress of the Messenger, but that too I cast away. Thus it is that my mind commended to me.’
20:98

قَالَ فَٱذْهَبْ فَإِنَّ لَكَ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ أَن تَقُولَ لَا مِسَاسَ ۖ وَإِنَّ لَكَ مَوْعِدًا لَّن تُخْلَفَهُۥ ۖ وَٱنظُرْ إِلَىٰٓ إِلَٰهِكَ ٱلَّذِى ظَلْتَ عَلَيْهِ عَاكِفًا ۖ لَّنُحَرِّقَنَّهُۥ ثُمَّ لَنَنسِفَنَّهُۥ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ نَسْفًا

Moses said, “Go away. It shall be thine to say throughout thy life, ‘Touch me not;’ and there is a promise of punishment for thee which shall not fail to be fulfilled about thee. Now look at thy god of which thou hast become a devoted worshipper. We will certainly burn it and then scatter it away into the sea.”
